Catholic World Mourns Renowned Biblical Scholar Cardinal Martini
The Catholic Herald (UK) ^ | 8/31/12

Italian Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini, a renowned biblical scholar and former Archbishop of Milan, died today aged 85 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Pope Benedict XVI met the cardinal privately during a visit to Milan in June and had been informed of his failing health, the Vatican press office said.

The cardinal was a prolific author whose books were bestsellers in Italy and included everything from scholarly biblical exegesis to poetry and prayer guides.

He retired as Archbishop of Milan in 2002, where he was known as a strong pastor and administrator, and as a very careful, thoughtful advocate of wider discussion and dialogue on some delicate and controversial Church positions.

At various times, he expressed openness to the possibility of allowing married Latin Rite priests under certain circumstances, ordaining women as deacons and allowing Communion for some divorced Catholics in subsequent marriages not approved by the Church.

During a special Synod of Bishops for Europe in 1999, he made waves when he proposed a new Church-wide council or assembly to unravel “doctrinal and disciplinary knots” such as the shortage of priests, the role of women, the role of laity and the discipline of marriage. His carefully worded remarks reflected his belief that the Church would benefit from a wider exercise of collegiality, or the shared responsibility of bishops for the governance of the Church. The idea of a new council was not taken up formally by the synod.

Here is an earlier posting that is indirectly related to this book. Fr. Fiore was a friend as was Fr. Kunz to the Catholic Homeschooling community. Initially Fr. John Hardon was sent to the Apostulate of the Catholic Homeschool community in the US by JPII. After his passing, Fr. Kunz and Fr.Fiore were great supporters.

From the last post on Fr. Fiore’s thread that I posted:

“As per Fr. Malachi, Fr. Kunz was an undercover agent for Rome who was investigating satanic pedophilia in the Church. Fr. Malachi went on to say that this murder will be covered up because the satanic group responsible had connections at the highest levels of government law enforcement. He said that this had happened to several other priests in the same manner who were also undercover agents for Rome.
Fr. Malachi himself met his demise under very suspicious circumstances. Please pray for both Fr. Kunz and Fr. Malachi.”

This is also pertinent to the Sandusky cases and the PA DA who vanished while earlier investigating the goings on at PENN STATE as Fr. Fiore said the pedophile ring was connected to the federal level of gov’t law enforcement.

Rest in peace. He wrote some useful books on prayer and Scripture.

Thank you for #s 4 and 5.

Fr. Fiore's magnificent funeral was at the all-Tridentine St. Mary's Oratory (in full communion with the Vatican and with the Rockford, IL diocese), where I attend Mass. Numbers of the parishioners were formerly parishioners of the murdered Fr. Kunz at Mt. Horeb, WI. Fr. Malachi Martin has proven irreplaceable so far.

Pray for Fr. Fiore as well. May God bless you and yours!

I remember when the liberals really thought he was going to be Pope and bring all kinds of radical change to the Church. He didn’t seem to be adverse to the idea himself. Oh well, prayers for the repose of his soul.

Fr. Malachi Martin wrote that, “Gramsci meant that Marxists must change the residually Christian mind...so that it would become not merely a non-Christian mind, but an anti-Christian mind.” Our purpose,” Gramsci wrote, “is not to change the course of history but to change the nature of man.”

We and future generations need to know about Antonio Gramsci, Theodore Adorno and Herbert Marcuse and the absolute evil perpetrated by each. They need to know who and what Ho Chi Minh was. We need to keep Malachi Martin’s books in print.
