For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save what was lost.
Luke 19:10
Like the disciples, we tend to rush to judgement far too readily. Let's give Dolan the benefit of the doubt.
Church leaders are still deluding themselves into thinking they can negotiate/compromise with Obama or get him to back down. Anything but deal with the reality that he MUST be defeated.
A banner appeared on our historic church this weekend. It says: “Without Life, freedom and the pursuit of happiness are nothing! Vote Pro-Life.”
Hopefully, Dolan is going to teach the faithful a lesson in advance of Novemeber. Buh Bye, Obumbums.
I don't agree with the archbishops decision, but I understand exactly why he did it.
“In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Let us pray. Bless us, O Lord, and these, Thy gifts, which we are about to receive from Thy bounty. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
“Bless you, Your Eminence.”
“That wasn’t addressed to you, Mr. President.”
Dolan should not have taken this path. I don’t care what his “secret” or “gotcha” motives are. They don’t override the slap in the face this invitation is to every rank-n-file, pewsitting Catholic.
The fox extends an invitation to the chicken...or
What did the meat slicer say to the baloney.
Why do I get the nagging feeling Dolan has been tamed somehow, either by a promise of a half-measure or worse.. blackmail? Will they soon appear together at a press conference announcing the finding of “common ground?”
If he holds the line, as I believe he will, good move.
The Church can’t be engaged in the life of the country as she opposed the mandate but not engaged when an opportunity to maintain a civil tone comes up. It will show that our position is rooted in reason rather than instinct.
The fact that Obama was invited is an advantage for the Obama campaign.
I don’t know why so much is being made of this. I remember Al Gore, who was a well known pro-abort, along with then Candidate Bush give speeches at the Al Smith Dinner. Romney and Obama aren’t being paid, they’re not receiving any awards. I really don’t see the big deal. I hope the rich Catholics boo the both of them, but boo Obama more. Keep the bar open and they will. ;)
