For these same reasons i do not call my dad father, because there is only one father.
Closer in concept to calling your dad Frank (or whatever his first name is). Just rude and undermining of his authority.
At the same time God is not a given name as far as i know but only means father to me, and it may mean satan to a devil worshiper.
Insensitivity isn’t an evil, or even a moral failing, by either side. the Christians did what they had to do, he did what he had to do.
But the Knesset member, based solely on what I read here, was the ‘hateful’ one, if that label must be applied.
And who really cares?
Where does she teach that? It is good that you appreciate the difference between Sola Scriptura and literalism, but it is not good to slander the Church. Yes we have liberal Catholics, more than I'd care. But where does the Church teach that "the first eleven chapters of Genesis never happened"?
I mean no such thing
Ah, OK. So "Protestantism is an error that comes from poor education" is not what you meant, but what you meant was "Catholic FReepers have in the past insulted Protestants by claiming that Catholicism requires an intellectual acumen that Protestants don't possess and can't appropriate". That really lifted the fog. For Alex's record, in my opinion they can appropriate the "acumen", but then they will have to cease to be Protestants. God bless the Guatemalan peasants and your mother, they make good Catholics too. Funny how the Holy Ghost works.
the hubris in claiming that the Catholic Church, or any other body, is the "new Israel."
It is not true for any other body, and had I invented the claim, it would be indeed unpardonable hubris. But we have it on high authority; blame Him.
Behold, I come quickly: hold fast that which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. He that shall overcome, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God; and he shall go out no more; and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God, and my new name. (Apocalypse 3:11-12)the first heaven and the first earth was gone, and the sea is now no more. I John saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice from the throne, saying: Behold the tabernacle of God with men, and he will dwell with them. And they shall be his people; and God himself with them shall be their God.(Apocalypse 21:1-3).
Observe: the New Testament Church is the People of God and God dwells with them.
After you are done apologizing or substantiating your slander pointed out in the first paragraph, can we go back to the bigoted MK please, which is the topic of the thread?
But what about World War One? A massively destructive war between European nations. Millions of lives were lost, which ultimately weakened the Christian heartland.
WWI is an interesting case. Although it has not been often identified as a religious war religion, or more accurately a lack of religion, played a major role. WWI was fought by very religious combatants who were governed by irreligious and atheists. The 19th century was called the Age of Enlightenment and saw a major rejection of religion and its civilizing influences by the educated elite who considered religion to be on par with superstition. For many it was the "emancipation of the human consciousness from an immature state of ignorance and error". In its place were Nihilistic nationalism and with it beliefs that science, stateism, German Idealism, Utilitarianism, Socialism, Eugenics, Marxism, a number of other isms that sought to replace Christian values and conscience.
In this respect WWI was a European civil war between the Christianity and the Godless.
Peace be with you
While the Great War appears on the surface to be without historiosophical (if I may coin the word) explanation, its results were the rise of secularized Britain and France and the brutal destruction of three empires where religion played a recognized political role. In a couple of decades, another war came, where secularism gave way to two state religions, Communism and Nazism. These two wars were convulsions of the Christian society in Europe.
