There is a brand of tribal Christian that has given up the faith, but who clings to the outward culture. This is same as “secular” Jews.

When these secular Christians come from protestant backgrounds they tend to lose their denominational identity. However, when they come from a Catholic background, they cling to that identification.

These people are irreligious, but refuse to admit it, instead claiming to be religious authorities based on their cultural identity.

Good analysis.

It’s tempting to create your own religion, if you love some ideology or sin more than the Truth.

You must remember that some “cultural Catholics” (I am one), are very conservative and want to see the Church return to its pre-Vatican II “values.” Cultural Catholics can go two ways - conservative or left-wing. I’m in the conservative camp.
