My understanding is that Joseph Smith Jr. was accidentally shot by Hyrum as Hyrum jumped to the ground with a pistol in his hand. After shooting Joseph Smith Jr. Hyrum was killed in the course of preventing his escape.

Hyrum was shot twice @ about the same time -- once in the back (and only Joseph Smith @ that level had a loaded firing pistol) -- and once from the front (Hyrum was near the front door)...

The shot from the front killed him; he landed on his back.

Joseph wasn't shot.

I believe the other two (including John Taylor) were wounded -- and survived.
