Does holy scripture have any play in this, or is it all about church heirarchy?

Consider that an over dependence on apostolic succession and extra-scriptural revelation may be at the root of the church’s current unholy upheaval.

Perhaps you and all chrstians should consider the possibility that the current crisis in chrstianity (continually "evolving," updating, and changing) dates back to the "new covenant" itself, wherein everything G-d had ever said was allegedly nullified and replaced with a completely new religion.

Why does no one get this?

Not nullified, but rather fulfilled.

G-d beat the Romans to it by almost 40 years, just left them to destroy the physical remains. Sad it came to that when His people had a better choice.

But mortals always make a mess of it, don’t we? I assert that there is little difference today between the holier-than-thou Pharisees of Jerusalem and the tasseled and robed heirarchy of the Vatican. See Matthew 23.

Shalom.
