In 1936 the Spanish Civil War broke out for similar reasons; even the Carlists’ war cry was the same (Viva Cristo Rey!).
The peasants supported the generals’ revolt against the government, which was supported by the urban communists and anarchists. In the end the people who actually worked instead of theorized won; the cities starved and surrendered (but not before killing over 7,000 priests - including 12 bishops).
