Catholic attorney John Salza once found himself inside a masonic hall, being asked to take off his wedding ring and crucifix as he swore an oath to be reborn as a Freemason.
Although he knew in his heart that something was wrong, he did not leave right away. Over several years, he advanced to the 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite a level that only a select group of masons are invited to.
While he was told that masonry was compatible with Catholicism, he eventually could not reconcile the two and left the masons. In 2008, Salza wrote a basic, short treatise, Why Catholics Cannot Be Masons, (TAN Publishing) that addressed the serious conflicts that lay between Catholicism and Freemasonry (including the Shriners).
In mid-September, Bishop Michael Sheridan interviewed Salza for his Catholic Radio Network weekly show, Bishop Sheridan Presents, and the show aired Oct. 1-7. Over the next 2-3 issues, we are running a transcript of the show.
Bill Howard, Editor In Chief
Bishop Sheridan: Welcome to all in the Lord Jesus. On our program today we are going to be discussing the topic of Masonry, or the Masons, or sometimes called the Freemasons; an organization that we know is not associated with the Catholic Church but wanted to bring up on this program because it seems, at least in my experience in talking to other priests and bishops, that there are perhaps a good number of Catholic men who become involved with the Masons, very often in very good faith, thinking that they are in a fraternal organization that is not in any way at odds with the Catholic Church. Our guest today, I think, is going to lead us in a very different direction. We are joined by John Salza. Welcome John.
John Salza: Your Excellency, thank you.

Through family connections, I knew people at all levels of the Order, including State and National levels, for quite a few years. I left because I just wasn’t interested in it anymore and wanted to do other things.
I can only wonder at the twisted emotional need of some people to turn logic and common sense on their ear, and hate an organization that wouldn’t have lasted from 1717 to the present day if even half of the nonsense spouted about it was true.
In my case, contributing factors include a move to obtain another career position and a very warm and wise Fransciscan priest.
Longevity has nothing to do with the rituals and oaths Masons adhere to today....since when did the enemy of mens soul cease his agenda? Different faces...same deceptions...and BTW the same arguements and denial by those who choose to remain favorable toward Masonry.
Care to explain the 27th degree to the 33 degree "secret of Masonary"?
It does seem to me that when one is ready to hear the real truth God appoints those who will reveal it as it is and not what one has been taught or told they should believe.
It is truly amazing that folks think it unimaginable the intellegent and wise men could fall into Masonary. Many at one time were just that...wise and intelligent, though I understands many of todays Masons are far less so then what once was. Still... people have this false sense of security in themselves that they would never fall for such things as Masonary and other cultish groups. All are vulnerable.
Thank God for Your Priest who appears probably new enough of Masonary to reveal it’s danger. The Caaatholic Church still stands very much opposses to Masonary.
You might reread the oaths taken...and further reports of how they can “harm” without anything physical.
You can protect Masonary all you care to...I will not for I know the great damage it can and has done to people and their families.
Further sharing that the initiate does indeed “swear” a penalty on himself....does speak volumes. What sort of stupidity to even consider such an oath and the ritual which goes with it.
A Christian is not ‘in darkness’ as Masons announce when they first begin the ritual....so then what kind of “light” are Masons bringing them into, via their ritual? There is only one “light of the world” and that is in Jesus Christ. So you see Masons start out on the wrong foot right from the get go in their intition ceremony...and that should give Christians a heads up from the get go as well.
I believe that God keeps poking people, in order to get their attention. He did wonders with me, and He caused me to haul my sorry a** back into the Faith. I was my parish representative to the diocesan committee working on the five year plan for the diocese last year, and I teach CCD (Sunday School), and am a lector. I usually bring the more significant happenings in the Church to parish attention and they'll get mentioned in either the announcements / bulletin or in the intentions for Mass each week.
Oh, and they often ask me about the Catechism and Church history. God has caused a number of excellent people to cross my path in various venues, including FR, who have moved me much closer to Him and for that I am indebted beyond words.
Yes he does just that...and am glad you bring to your peoples 'significant happenings" they might not otherwise be aware of.
I think every church should have someone who keeps the people informed of that which threatens our freedoms and way of life. Had they been doing so then the public would have been better informed as the liberals and their agendas were attempting control. Now they have that control and we see the outcome AFTER the wolf is in the henhouse.
I made the aging liberals squirm today when I offered prayers for the leadership of Cardinals Dolan and Wuerl in fighting against the Administration in their wholesale attack upon the Catholic Church and the possible shutting down of a quarter of the country’s hospitals.
None of them spoke to me after Mass today...
They'll get over it....you just keep doing what you know will shake 'the people who do care' and open their ears.... those are your hearers...shake hard Mark!
Jesus did say there would be division among us when so many within the church today are not Christians. Remember some are not "of us"....the wolfs among the sheep.
They'll get over it
I know them - they won't.
those are your hearers...shake hard Mark!
I'll do my best.
Jesus did say there would be division among us when so many within the church today are not Christians. Remember some are not "of us"....the wolfs among the sheep.
Good point, although many of these liberals are less aligned with the canids and more aligned with parasitic roundworms.
Are you a Mason?
Freemasonry is a very deceptive religious and philosophical organization that has had a long term goal of creating a world government and world religion. This is what the Bible warns us about. They want to rule the world. There is a very tiny number of people who are very high in society who know what the true purpose of Freemasonry is. They want to wipe Christianity of the map. There true religion is Luciferiansim which teaches that Lucifer is good and Good is bad. It is totally upside down. These people are perverse megalomaniacs who are very intelligent making them very dangerous.
Many of the Founding Fathers were Masons but they were not involved in the nefarious workings of the order. John Quincy Adams denounced the Freemasons. During the eighteen hundreds many people began to discover the hidden motives of the Freemasons and there was a big backlash against them.
