The Message version uses

“Anarchist”

I don’t know about in that ref but for many such verses.

In 2 Thess. 2: 6-8 the word is ἄνομος and means 1) destitute of (the Mosaic) law a) of the Gentiles 2) departing from the law, a violator of the law, lawless, wicked Meanwhile, in 2 Thess> 2:3, the word is ἀνομία and means: ) the condition of without law a) because ignorant of it b) because of violating it 2) contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness I can see how one might translate it "anarchist", but I would not necessarily use that word alone. I like the way the other translations. I suppose anarchist and "man of lawlessness" mean the same thing, but "anarchist" has become such a "label" lately.

Actually, I just did a double check. The Message version does use the word “antichrist” in 1 John just as other versions do, but where they say “lawless one”, etc. it says “anarchist”.
