Coptic Christians in Egypt Fear for the Future Under Islamist Government
By Ben Gilbert
February 24, 2012

As a Coptic Christian, 24-year-old George Gerges said signs over the past year haven’t been good. This winter, The Muslim Brotherhood and ultraconservative Salafi parties won almost 75 percent of the seats in Egypt’s parliamentary elections. Last October, more than 20 Christians were killed during a demonstration demanding equal rights. And not too long ago, several Christian churches were burned during clashes between Christians and Muslims.

“When we live together, without any political factors, we live in peace,” Gerges said. “But when religion becomes an issue, they burn churches, they burn houses, they kill Christians. There’s a bad history.”

Gerges is afraid that Christians will be forced to pay a special religious tax, that Christian women will be forced to wear the Islamic veil, and that alcohol will be banned.

Muslim Brotherhood Calls For Day To ‘Kill Jews,’ Israeli Reporter Says
Monday, November 28, 2011
JTA
The Muslim Brotherhood held an anti-Israel rally in a Cairo mosque that reportedly called to “one day kill all Jews.”

Some 5,000 people participated in the Nov. 25 rally, during which they made the call about killing Jews — a quote from the Koran — a reporter for Israel’s daily Yediot Achronot reported from the Egyptian capital.

The rally held in the ancient al-Azhar Mosque was called to raise awareness about the “battle against Jerusalem’s Judaization,” Yediot reported.

The phrase “Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv, judgment day has come” was chanted repeatedly throughout the event.

Ahmed al-Tayeb, the mosque’s imam, reportedly accused Jews throughout the world of preventing Islamic and Egyptian unity.

Sunni Scholar Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi: Islamic Law Should Be Implemented Gradually in Egypt; There Should Be No Chopping Off of Hands in the First Five Years
[January 30, 2012 Special Dispatch No.4463]
Following are excerpts from an interview with Sunni scholar Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi, which aired on Al-Nahar TV on January 26, 2012:

Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi: “I think [the shari’a] should be implemented gradually. This is a law of the shari’a and a law of nature. […]

“We should do things gradually. We should prepare the people, teach them. People have to learn. We have to make an effort to teach people the truth about Islam. […]

“People do not understand the shari’a properly. We have to teach people the laws of the shari’a and explain them, before anything else.

“I think that in the first five years, there should be no chopping off of hands. This period should be dedicated to teaching things.

“A transitional phase… This should be a period in which we teach people the true laws of the shari’a.

“When we find food for all the hungry, schools for all the pupils, hospitals for all the sick, homes for all those who want them, wives for all the bachelors – then we can discuss the punishment for theft. […]

“All the [presidential] candidates are good, but I support the candidacy of our brother Abd Al-Mun’im Abu Al-Futuh.”

Thanks for posting. This kind of visibility about Christian persecution and genocide is tellingly overdue. The negligent silence from Western governments, including our own, is deafening.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the article:
“Christians are being killed in the Islamic world because of their religion. It is a rising genocide that ought to provoke global alarm.
...In recent years the violent oppression of Christian minorities has become the norm in Muslim-majority nations stretching from West Africa and the Middle East to South Asia and Oceania.”
I just read a NYT article extolling the virtues of the Boko Haram in Nigeria. They were presented as an Islamic local group courageously fighting the government and killing police and the excessively rich. NOT ONE WORD ABOUT THE ATTACKS ON CHURCHES AND THE EXTERMINATION OF CHRISTIANS. Breaking News on Twitter says yet another church in Kano, Nigeria has been car bombed, killing two church goers.
