The church sits across the street from a dog track that has been there since 1935. It took a beautiful field and instead of using some of their unearned millions in staying green like he preaches and building a parking garage, they paved over about 95% of the field. Then they bought a couple dozen acres from the dog track across the street and paved some more for additional parking.
Back in 2001 he bought another dog track that had closed a few miles away. Huge plot of land. Got it rezoned for a church (tax exempt) and demolished the dog track. Then the land sat, no effort to build anything. They applied for tax exemption and was denied, the county telling them to live up to the agreement, build their church and they can get their exemption. Northland/Hunter continued to contest the county instead of building anything.
Finally Hunter sued the county over the tax exemption. Judge ruled for the county. Hunter then made a “good faith” payment of his back property taxes and then promptly sold the property to Centex in 2004 or 2005. Hunter is lower than whale dung, the freaking hypocrite.
Like all leftist "social justice" activists, he closely follows Alinsky's "rules" to realize his agenda. Pity the poor dumb sheep who sit in his congregation thinking that they're hearing "the Gospel", when in reality, like all sheep going to the slaughter, they are merely meekly and innocently exposing their necks to the slaughterer. HUNTER: "The good news (gospel) is that with God's help, we can stop global warming." (See below).
Like Jim Wallis ("God's DemocRAT") of Sojourners Mag., Joel Hunter (at Ohio University in the 60's) was a campus "social justice activist" in the Civil Rights movement .
Jim Wallis was tapped by the DemocRATS in 2005 to be their new "faith adviser"

August 2009 -- "...One figure scheduled on the call, the Rev. Joel Hunter of the 10,000-member Northland Church near Orlando, Fla., said Obama needs to go through religious leaders to sell his message "because that's who has access to the vast majority of people in this country." HERE

It was Alinsky for whom change was his mantra. And by change, he meant a Marxist revolution achieved by slow, incremental, Machiavellian means which turned society inside out. This had to be done through systematic deception, winning the trust of the naively idealistic middle class by using the language of morality to conceal an agenda designed to destroy it. And the way to do this, he said, was through peoples organisations. Community organisers would mobilise direct action by the oppressed masses against their capitalist oppressors..." ~ Revolution you can believe in by Melanie Phillips Tuesday, 9th September 2008

Alinsky scolded the Sixties Left for scaring off potential converts in Middle America. True revolutionaries do not flaunt their radicalism, Alinsky taught. They cut their hair, put on suits and infiltrate the system from within.
While his ultimate goal was nothing less than the radicalization of the middle class, Alinsky stressed the importance of learning to talk the language of those with whom one is trying to converse. Tactics must begin with the experience of the middle class, he said, accepting their aversion to rudeness, vulgarity, and conflict. Start them easy, dont scare them off.
To appeal to the middle class, Alinsky continued, goals must be phrased in general terms like Liberty, Equality, Fraternity; Of the Common Welfare; Pursuit of happiness; or Bread and Peace. He suggested, for instance, that an effective organizer discovers what their [the middle class] definition of the police is, and their language -- [and] he discards the rhetoric that always says pig [in reference to police]. Instead of hostile rejection he is seeking bridges of communication and unity over the gaps . He will view with strategic sensitivity the nature of middle-class behavior with its hang-ups over rudeness or aggressive, insulting, profane actions. All this and more must be grasped and used to radicalize parts of the middle class.
A related principle taught by Alinsky was that radical organizers must not only speak the language of the middle class, but that they also must dress their crusades in the vestments of morality. Moral rationalization, he said, is indispensable to all kinds of action, whether to justify the selection or the use of ends or means. All great leaders, he added, invoked moral principles to cover naked self-interest in the clothing of freedom, equality of mankind, a law higher than man-made law, and so on. In short: All effective actions require the passport of morality. ..." Continued here: Front Page Magazine
