"That moment has haunted me ever since."

I remember coming home once and seeing a teenager on the side of the road surrounded by some people with a car by the side of the road with a busted windshield. He was sitting up and talking to people but the Holy Spirit told me to stop and pray for him. I didn't, making excuses that he looked OK and had plenty of people to take care of him. I found out later that the kid died.

Now there's a moment that will haunt you...

Wow ... that's painful. It's not too late though, Dan. You can still pray for his immortal soul. I'm sure he would appreciate those prayers. Too often today, in our secularized society, when someone dies, the family and friends grieve and then move on with their lives. The deceased is left bereft of ongoing prayer.

A good example of this is my neighbor. On a beautiful and crisp autumn sunday, he took out the spreader to apply winter fertilizer to the lawn. A few minutes later, another neighbor knocked on the front door and told the man's girlfriend to call 911 but, it was too late. Steve was dead. I read the obituaries, planning to visit the funeral home. The obit appeared 2 weeks later and was an invitation to a restaurant to celebrate the man's life. I did not know the couple that well and, instead of dining with strangers, added him to my permanent prayer list. May he rest in peace! He was only 50 years old.
