While thousands of pro-life Americans prepare to attend the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., the Jesuit University of Scranton, located in Pennsylvania, makes very different preparations.
Marjorie Margolies
Former Congresswoman and avowed abortion advocate Marjorie Margolies has been invited to give the keynote speech at the University of Scrantons Ready to Run: Campaign Training for Women program. The event is scheduled on January 28, according to the universitys web site.
On January 13, the bishop of Scranton, the Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, issued a formal statement and asked that the invitation be withdrawn. But his request was rebuffed by university officials.

One wonders how this Catholic university qualifies invited speakers. Clearly not on the grounds of Catholicism, since Ms. Margolies has publicly taken action against the Churchs timeless teachings on the sanctity of innocent human life. Particularly notable is her persistent opposition to the Hyde Amendment, which restricts the use of federal funds to procure abortion, even going so far as to say that:
If the Year of the Woman showed how far women had come, the day of the Hyde Amendment vote showed how much further women had to go.1
The Cardinal Newman Society reports that Ms. Margolies co-sponsored the Abortion Clinic Access Bill, which sought to make it a federal crime to impede access to abortion clinics.
After the end of her congressional career, her pro-abortion record only got worse, culminating in her position as Executive Director of the Womens Campaign Fund, a pro-abortion organization dedicated to dramatically increasing the number of women in elected office who support reproductive choices and options, from all parties and at all levels of government.2 As we all know, reproductive choices is simply a loaded term often used to disguise the sin of procured abortion.
How can it be that a woman with such a pro-abortion record is invited to give not only a lecture, but a keynote address, at a Catholic institute, which ought to be a cornerstone in the defense of innocent life?
Furthermore, how can a Catholic university allow Ms. Margolies to be at the helm of a training program that purports to prepare leaders for public office? What kind of future political leaders does the university hope to shape: Defenders of Catholic truth? Or willing pawns of the Culture of Death?

Maybe some folks could stop off in Scranton when returning from the March for Life.
I know 10 years ago that the Bishop of Scranton was very strongly pro-life. But I believe that very good Bishop has retired...
So, if she were an active member of the KKK who was going to speak about, say, global warming, a Catholic college should welcome her as because she won’t be talking about the KKK?
“Jesuit” - says it all.
A dragon in a cave told them to.
Thanks for Posting Topher, I will be at TFP’s HQ up in PA this weekend, and at the March on Monday with them! :D God Bless our Country, I signed the petition! and posted it to facebook.
SUPPRESS THE JESUITS!
The Catholic Church forbids this. This is why there was such a fuss about Obama giving the Commencement address a few years ago at Notre Dame. About 100 Cardinals, Bishops and Archbishops signed a petition denouncing Notre Dame’s actions...

Do these institutions ask everyone that gives speeches their standing on abortion, prior to booking them?
Father Quinn,
What is so disturbing about the selection of Marjorie Margoles to be the keynote speaker of the Campaign Training for Women program is not the disobedience to the bishop and to Pope Benedict. I get that Jesuits have always revelled in their dissent, and have been vindicated by history in the past. It’s not like she’s presenting on one topic, and her views on another, unrelated topic are tripping her up. It’s that Marjorie Margoles is precisely what Campaign Training for Women ought to be opposing. Having her present for such a program is like having David Duke present on “Healing Inter-racial Relationships.”
She’s not a liberal Democrat whose moral failures and cowardice led her to support the party’s stance on abortion, like, say, former Gov. Hugh Carey of New York. She’s issue first, party second, and her chosen issue is abortion. She’s authored bills that would take away the first-amendment rights of Catholics to protest against abortion. She supports the government taking taxpayer’s money to give directly for abortion. She recognizes no right to dissent, no right to decline, no right to refuse.
This is who the University of Scranton believes should be teaching Catholic women how to engage in politics?
When I was in Scranton, there was a thoroughly disgusting rumor that President ***** and/or Fr. *****, both wonderful, warm-hearted people, had been associated with the Nazis when they were young. From what I knew of Fr. ******, he was a great man. And I consider Fr. ****** a friend. The vulgarity of the rumor was exceeded only by its pointlessness; the idiots who were spreading it didn’t even seem to have any malice towards Fr. ****** or Fr. ******. Some day, after we’ve put an end to such mindless killing as Marjorie Margoles advocates, a young Scranton graduate will say, “I heard a disgusting rumor that President Quinn supported the American holocaust. Surely something so vulgar can’t possibly be true?” And I will ache that I cannot deny it.
That’s what’s so sick. Margoles’ support for killing babies isn’t incidental to her professional identity; it’s integral to it. As I wrote in my letter, it’s not like she’s another moral coward like Michael Dukakis or Sen. Casey, who caved to party pressure, she now heads a group whose sole purpose is to promote abortion.
Guess what The Pro Abortion Speaker is lost to Rick Santorum in 1994 is also Chelsea Clintons Mother in Law...and Husband is a FELON!
What is her speech supposed to be about? Has she said she’s going to talk about or promote abortion from the podium?
What is she being paid to do? If she does that, shouldn’t she be allowed to do it, regardless of how she may think about something?
Read the article, utahagen... that’s what’s so sick about it. The analogy would be a klan kleagle coming to talk about voting rights. (Especially since the Klan was primarily an anti-Catholic organization, contrary to legend and U.S. textbooks.)

The USCCB [United States Catholic College of Bishops] has made it clear that to speak at a Catholic College, one must represent Catholic values.
Catholic Colleges have a responsibility to screen candidates who speak at Catholic Colleges for that reason.
It is probably known that this person is a strong abortion advocate, but the college chose to ignore this fact -- for whatever reason.
Guess what The Pro Abortion Speaker is lost to Rick Santorum in 1994 is also Chelsea Clintons Mother in Law...and Husband is a FELON!
Chelsea Clinton married Marc Mezvinsky, son of convicted felon and former Iowa Congressman Edward Mezvinsky. He is also the son of Marjorie Margolies.
Marjorie Margolies is a former Congresswoman from the 13th district of Pennsylvania.
She had the deciding vote to pass President Bill Clinton's 1993 budget. Maybe that is how her son was able to marry Chelsea -- reward for loyally serving the Clintons...
Her former husband Edward Mezvinsky was convicted on Bank Fraud, Wire Fraud, and Mail Fraud in 2001. He was convicted on 31 of 69 charges.
Having someone speak at a Catholic College whose husband was involved in so much Fraud does not speak very well of this Catholic College.
