What are you disputing? That angels are pure spirit, or that pure spirits can only engage in intellectual combat?
Primarily the latter, though we have no idea what “pure spirit” means either. From anecdotal evidence (possibly given by complete liars, granted), what’re referred to as the “spirit world” is even more real and solid than our world. The Bible doesn’t really say either way.
