“Jesus didn’t attack the Pharisees for what they wore. He attacked them for what they did.”
Absolutely right. And I would add, He attacked them for what they did in the name of God. They used all the puffery of their position, the ever-evolving man-added requirements written into their rulebook, the methods and manner of their congregation, the religious acts done for an outward show, the air of superiority they assumed in their head knowledge of the scripture (without a “heart-knowledge” to go along with it). In short, He abhorred their assumption that all these things justified them in the eyes of God (and passed off as the truth of God, that men and women everywhere should do the same.) God hates such demonstrations because it takes away from the truth, the glory, and the power of His Son. “Let he who glories glory in the Lord!”
I do not advocate lutheranism, denominationalism, catholicism, or any other ism. I search the scriptures, which are able to make one wise unto salvation. There I find Christ. And I worship Him in Spirit and truth and in the beauty of holiness (as the scriptures dicatate.) My worship with other bible-believers does not need a cathedral, ornamentation, ostentation to please God. Worship is all about redeemed, sanctified, saved individuals agreeing with God about His Son. This is what pleases God.
