Of course it's dangerous to proclaim specific information online and that before a worldwide audiance {sic}..ROTFLMAO, that is not what was asked. Just as I do not publish which parish I belong to, I never asked nor expected you to identify by location (e.g. The First Baptist Church of Biloxi at 2nd and Main) where you went to services, rather the question is what great harm is there in a poster identifying themselves - as xzins does, for example - by denomination, sect or confessional for the purpose of honest debate?
Straw Man (also "The Straw Person"): The fallacy of setting up a phony version of an opponent's argument, and then proceeding to knock it down with a wave of the hand.
With that information and knowledge of the person's general geographic location, it would be quite easy for someone to identify the FReeper with a little determined sleuthing.
What with the crazies out surfing the internet, I don't blame anyone for not wanting to compromise their screen name to that extent.
And again, for about the bazillionth time, our identity is in Christ. I am a follower of HIM, not of Luther, Wesley, Calvin, I don't identify as Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, AoG, independent, whatever, because neither the men nor the churches save me.
The label they bear means nothing to God and nothing to me. I've been to services in a wide variety of churches and denominations and have worshiped God in them and had a great time meeting fellow Christ followers.
My fidelity it to Jesus and His word. That's the only answer you or any other Catholic is going to get from me about my beliefs.
Live with it.
When you use scripture and rely on Christ alone there is no sect, denomination, or supposed confessional one attends as long as that entity is following scripture as well. Only those whose sects claim enrollment is a prerequisite for salvation would worry about something like that and that is one of the tenants of a cult.
