A national advertising campaign aimed at bringing 1 million wayward Catholics back into the fold has begun airing in Wisconsin. Viewers got a glimpse Tuesday night during the NBC Nightly News.
The $3.5 million campaign launched by the Atlanta-based non-profit Catholics Come Home, will run on all major networks, as well as cable and satellite services. through Jan. 8.
CCH Founder and President Tom Peterson called the national campaign a first of its kind television evangelization effort on behalf of the Catholic Church. He said its regional campaigns, including one in the Diocese of Green Bay last year, have resulted in as many as 300,000 Catholics returning to the church, as many as 92,000 in the Diocese of Phoenix alone.
Weve had a renewal of our faith and we want to share that by inviting other catholics to come home, he said. Of the Phoenix results, he said: Thats a 12% boost in Mass attendance and an excellent return on investment at less than $2 a soul. But its not about the numbers, said Peterson. We want to remind people that God loves them and has a plan for their lives. And Christmas is a perfect time to send that message.
Through Jan. 8, Peterson said, the ads are scheduled to air on CBS, NBC, Univision, TBS, USA, TNT, CNN, FoxNews, and other networks during such shows as 60 Minutes, NCIS, Kennedy Center Honors, NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, OReilly, and in all major college football bowl games airing on Dish Network.
Peterson said the campaign is funded through private donations, though some are given through dioceses for the ads.
A good start would be the US bishops keeping quiet about their views amnesty and social spending.
Saw the spot, great message. I’m thinking a more militant message a la Knights Templar Crusades era kind of thing. Now those guys kicked ass. Word on the street was they even had Saladin quaking in his knickers.
Aah, yes, the glorious days of yore ...
At a Mass at which I assisted this past weekend, the homily was 100% hard-core right-wing politics. The readings were barely mentioned. (A friend leaned over to me and said, "Is this a Ron Paul campaign commercial I just wandered into?".)
I was not impressed or pleased, despite the fact that I agreed with maybe 90% of what the priest said. Political opinions, other than those on matters essential to the faith like abortion or homosexual "marriage" on which faithful Catholics are not free to disagree, don't belong in the pulpit! That includes "right-wing" opinions as much as "left-wing" ones.
And so, while the bishops are certainly free to express their views on any topic, neither we nor they should be "putting those opinions in the pulpit" by confusing them with the essentials of the faith.
A good start would be the local Catholic Priest getting back to me and making an appointment to meet him like I have been asking for.
This time of year is (let me choose the right word) not the most auspicious --- for a good sit-down meeting with your good priest. On top of everything else, my own Fr. Pete has been ministering to three (3!) families that have had loved ones hospitalized in car smash-ups. Lord have mercy.
LIke I said, I'm not aware of your particular circumstances, but I will pray that it all goes well.
Peace!
Merry Christmas!
A good start would be taking an even harder public stance on stamping out the cover ups of the sex abuse that has cause so many to leave the Church.
Unfortunately, the bishops have hung that around their necks.
Another would be to clean house and suppress orders like the Jesuits that have become completely compromised in their teachings by homosexuality and modernism.
I think I contacted him last May.

We keep the MASS in Christmas!

I saw one yesterday.. full of lies and myths ...but it is what I expected
Sounds like a perfect fit to me.
Until they reject the errors of Vatican II, the best they can do is to put their fingers in the dyke.
Seems I recall a bit of a flare up between Rome and the Templars. Laying claim to the Templar heritage after what was done to them by their own church? You've got to be kidding.
I was wondering when the Church was going to remind God's creations about its existence, there has been a plethora of ads for many smaller religious groups on secular channels.
It seemed that several were public service announcements and that shocked me;however,I might have been mistaken.
In any case I was delighted with the spots and if I weren't Catholic already or if I had fallen away I would definitely come back!!!
What an unfortunate homonym you’ve inadvertantly used.
Just what America needs: Catholic militancy.
Let’s see, Kennedy, Pelosi, Kerry and Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri)...all in good standing with the Catholic Church...Ms. McCaskill is a member of “my” parish. I think that I’ll pass, until some of the slime is purged.
