They may seem drastically different: a nonprofit that helps children build lemonade stands, an organization that encourages character building through sports and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But they all have the same underlying goal: to promote economic self-reliance.
The LDS Church Thursday was the last stop on a nationwide tour highlighting best practices in economic self-reliance. During a two day conference sponsored by The Philanthropy Roundtable, representatives from charitable foundations across the country took a tour through Welfare Square, the LDS Humanitarian Center and the Bishop's Central Storehouse.

More like misrepresent another's words.
Thank you, I couldnt have said it better.
I know - your word parsing problem.
Faith, Hope & Love Church was a non-denominational evangelical church in Issaquah WA which folded. It was pretty big and pretty peppy on Sunday mornings. The pastor’s name was Bjorn Bergman. And I don’t know what happened to the building fund and basically I don’t care. That was probably in 1987? I was in the Deaf Ministry at that time. Why did you want to know?
“I have always liked their preparedness mentality”
Couldn’t hurt. Thank you, FReeper pal.
You just mentioned it in your post and I didn’t know anything about it. I thought it might have been something in the news that I missed, but now that I know more, I realize that it was something more personal to you. Sorry, not trying to be nosy or anything.
“If the original poster had used the label ‘(ecumenical)’ in the title, no antagonism at all would have been allowed on this thread.”
I thought I posted this under religion and I thought I checked the ecumenical box. The problem is that this article is newsworthy, timely, and involved non profits and religious organizations (among others). Had I marked it “ecumenical” only a few people (if any) would have read it or paid any attention to it. That’s kind of a catch 22.
For the Religion Forum ecumenical thread no-antagonism guidelines to apply you must put the phrase “(Ecumenical)” in the title. Click on my profile page for more guidelines to the Religion Forum.
If the original poster had used the label “(ecumenical)” in the title, no antagonism at all would have been allowed on this thread.
Religion Forum threads are “open” by default, i.e. posters may argue for and against beliefs, dieties, authorities, etc - and they may ridicule on “open” RF threads. They are in a town square format and are therefore often contentious.
Posters who cannot handle that type of debate should IGNORE “open” RF threads altogether and instead read and post to threads labeled “prayer” “devotional” “caucus” or “ecumenical.”
****
RM now you know there is no such thing anymore for the LDS since the day that JR himself removed the label off on our thread because he thinks our religion is phony and stood firm on that thread with anti LDS and even attended an anti LDS picnic in Utah.
Since that day there has never been a close thread label.
Religion Forum threads labeled “Ecumenical” are not closed.
There was an "anti LDS picnic" held in Utah?
All this denial about working for your bread in the scriptures is misleading.
Charity is about love and if you love another you help them to wax strong again so they will be fit for the Kingdom.
Those who are sick you bring them aid and comfort.
Ecc 1
18 ¶By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

It makes me wonder what happen to the Relief Society and the priesthood which he also over sees.
It is the bishop who calls these people to leadership postiion.

It isn’t just this ward in particle with my lds uncle and aunt. My cousin the only one who did not leave lds moved to Utah with her husband, they were both temple workers. I mean the highest of the high inside the temple, she never got help when she was suffering - nothing, nada. And it ended in the worse tragedy.
lds is not what it appears to be.
I’m not Mormon and have plenty of concerns about the faith. However most of the mormons I’ve met are decent people. I’d love to convert mormons to Christianity but do not think hateful speech is the way to do that.

Frist of all thank you for your well meaning.
I am always puzzled by folks who know many decent LDS who strive to practice to do the Lord’s will want to convert them to Traditional Christianity.
Once upon a time I was mainstream and not fulfilled which cause me to seek after those things written in the Bible that was not being acknowledge. It was an 18 year quest but I found those things of the Lord being honored here on earth.
My conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was by the power of Holy Ghost when I prayed after reading a passages in The Book of Mormon.
Moroni 10
3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
6 And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is.
7 And ye may know that he is, by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore I would exhort you that ye deny not the power of God; for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever.
8 And again, I exhort you, my brethren, that ye deny not the gifts of God, for they are many; and they come from the same God. And there are different ways that these gifts are administered; but it is the same God who worketh all in all; and they are given by the manifestations of the Spirit of God unto men, to profit them.
After I read and ponder these words I sincerely prayed with real intend...
I receive a joy of the soul beyond anything the earth could give it was by the power of the Holy Ghost so sweet and comforting and fullfiling to have my quest answered.
All that I have learn about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was taught from Lord Jesus Christ through the witness and power of the Holy Ghost.
There are a multitude of reasons, mostly because you accept a non-biblical prophet.
Your quoting the Book of Mormon is another reason. God gave us the Bible.
“There are a multitude of reasons, mostly because you accept a non-biblical prophet.”
Think about that the Jews must have said the same things when the New Testament was written.

“Your quoting the Book of Mormon is another reason. God gave us the Bible.”
Drif, the Lord can give his children as much as He wants to only man is putting limits on what the Lord should give.
many Tradition of Men keep talking about the Bible which is the word of God and in the scriptures man is counsel to
Seek and ye shall find, knock and ye shall receive,
Try all of the spirits if they are of God, it did not say trust no spirit.
John 14
15 ¶If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Fathers which sent me.
Over and over Jesus makes a distinction between Jesus and His Father two beings one mind!
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
LISTEN as Jesus highlights the mission of the Holy Ghost is to teach all thins and bring all things to your remembrance yet many deny the the power there of.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
AGAIN Jesus says His Father is greater then Jesus is!
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
Tradition of Men aka mainstream dilutes the message.
Thank you anyway it is not my intent to annoy you but these are few reasons why I left the mainstream I was hungry and now I am fullfiled with the word of God by the power and witness of the Spirit of the Lord.
Fantasy is not scripture. Joseph Smith was a peepstone sexual predator of married women. He lied to his ‘flock’, fabricated fictional scriptures from Egyptian papri, and ‘rewrote’ the King James Bible into King James English, adding thousands of words and passages, not the least significant is the eight hundred plus words he added at the end of Genesis to fabricate a prophecy of his coming forth ‘in these latter days’. MormonISM is mormonism, it is not in any way Christianity, restored or otherwise.
