<shrug> You asked, I answered - buy it or not as you choose. (But if you think I or other readers shouldn't buy it, an actual counterargument seems called for.)
It's not that as much as it is that this gladhanding takes place AFTER the Consecration. It is very disrespectful to be chatting, shaking hands, and laughing at this point in the Mass. If we are there to worship the Lord, why are we spending so much time focusing on each other??
I think everybody saw it on The Walton’s and thought, “hey, that’s kinda neat.” It all rolled downhill from there.
