Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, not Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God. Just to clarify your misconceptions.

Which is why Mormon leaders are on record saying you need Joseph Smith's consent for entering into a certain degree of salvation and Mormons have "Praise to the Man" (Joseph Smith) as one of their hymns in their hymn book!

BTW who are you to make judgment calls of what is or not between God’s covenant children!

(Resty, that's called Biblical discernment...and people are called to make it all the time! Including testing the spirits...holding fast to that which is good, etc.)

IF God told me not to join any church I think I would OBEY him. Joseph, not so much. So when the LDS church white washes its history it makes a fool of itself.

So why did Joseph join the Methodist church after God told him not to? My theory is that the first vision never happened and when he came up with the story 12 years or so later he didn’t think anyone would check his facts.

There is nothing wrong with wearing things that help remind one of who they are...

What? We all need special underwear to figure out our spiritual identity?

Whoa!

Why? So what? You Mormons spiritually embroider all underwear in the world so that people can be "reminded" who they are? And if that's not good enough, you brand us all as "Mormon afterworld wannabes" with dead-dunking in your temples?

I have been blessed and impressed by many of the posts from people who have open minds and open hearts.

Open minds.

Open hearts.

And openly holey underwear.

The Mormon "trinity"

So that you are not taken out of context here is your whole post.

Why would I want to do that I love the Church and Joseph Smith is prophet called by my Lord Jesus Christ! It is a marvelous work and wonder that has manifest in the earth after all of the growing pains. This Church was manifest under the guidance’s of the refiners fire. I am humble to be a part of it.

I am always amazed at the level of allegiance to the LDS church and little is mentioned of Christ. There is no freedom in the LDS church, imagine the freedom you could have in Christ. You could worship him in virtually any fashion you would like. You don't even need Joseph Smith.

RE; my question again...

When did the so called great apostasy occur?

Please be specific.

Someone who has devoted so much of their life’s energy to the church should be able to answer such a simple question in support of the foundational argument of mormonism.

It is afterall, a very important part of the premise which mormonism is founded upon.

That Jesus Christ lied when He said that the gates of hell would not prevail against His church.

JS comes along and claims otherwise, surely there must be something to support this allegation...

Again, when did this great and complete apostasy occur?

Sources, specifics and facts are always welcome at FR.

That has GOT to be one of the funniest posts I’ve seen in a long time. OCD much? Let’s just leave it as, DAYS ago. Pharisees have nothing on you.

I’m in the middle of watching a new Gaki no Tsukai that I found on the internet, homeschooling my kids, doing laundry, and checking on FR when I get a break.

If you have nothing else better to do than troll around finding old posts you disagree with, swinging around your dogma or being alpha-poster with the “beat on the Mormons” mob, be my guest.

I just replied to let you know I was past all this and now I’ve wasted time laughing at you instead of Tanaka Naoki. You’re not as amusing.

Just wondering...mormons love to quote C. S. Lewis to us...how come none of them ever quote this: Die before you die. There is no chance after- C.S. Lewis

Indeed, wonderful!

Good news like that is for sharing!

I would surmise that we have all these ex-Pharisaical Mormon legalists like there must have been some Pharisees who saw Jesus die on the cross and became ex- Pharisees!

For those of you who may not see the Pharisaicalism in Mormonism, just look at Lds.org like I did...
... every single entry they have for carrying out their various add-on "Laws"...
...guess which two add-on "laws" get the most mentions by Lds, Inc?

It's near a tie:
(1) The Law of Tithing
(2) The Law of Chastity

That's interesting, too...'cause you would think that based upon what Joseph Smith said, the Law of Baptizing dead people would be #1. But it's not stressed more than the above (& doesn't rank above many other Mormon "laws").

Joseph Smith: “The GREATEST RESPONSIBILITY IN THIS WORLD that God has placed upon us is to seek after our dead.” (Joseph Smith, Jr., Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 356)

Mormons are you obeying this? Are you doing three-year missions to the dead to outdo your two- year missions to the living?

If I was a gambler, I could probably wage a million $ that not a single Mormon could name EVERY law mentioned by Lds general authorities on Lds.org. [What a crying shame, 'cause even Joseph Smith said: “We cannot keep all the commandments without first knowing them, and we cannot expect to know all, or more than we now know unless we comply with or keep those we have already received.” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 256.)]

And Mormons are shooting for the highest degree by way of perfect obedience??????
How can they obey that which they have no complete knowledge of?

For the Christian, do we follow a "law" of tithing?

No. Giving is an inside-out thing, done from the heart, encouraged by God as part of being godly.

Mormons? They make it an outside-in lock-up, imposed upon from without -- or you're out (of the temple, that is)...
...No chance for special "callings" in the church;
...Don't get to see your son or daughter married in the temple;
....No "forever family";
...No living with Heavenly Father forever.

A Mormon could pay 9.99% of his income, and still be disqualified from all the above...Why? Because he "broke" their man-made "law!"

BTW...the Mormon "law of chastity" does the same thing as the Mormon "law of tithing": It attempts to impose a man-made law from the outside-in. Now am I saying singles should not be chaste and marrieds should not remain faithful to their spouse? Not at all; of course we are to exercise self-control! But Jesus said no matter whether you engage in physical adultery, God looks at the heart...and if you lust, you have already broken any boundary of heart purity/chasteness.

Mormons (and many Christian church members, too) consistently want to measure things by external appearances. God already knows our hearts perfectly. We can't change His omniscience and omnipresence. That's why Jesus complimented the Pharisees on their outward righteousness and condemned them on their inward tombstone-like lives.

Too many Mormons and even members of Christian churches compare their outward religious lives to the rest of the world, and think they are way out front of the race to heaven.

But God doesn't judge us that way.
It's pass or fail. (James says if we stumble at only one part of the Law, we have broken ALL of it -- James 2:10).
It's inside and outside.
It's internal and external.

All: Stay away from such religious legalism as mentioned above; and, if you're already entrapped in it, run away. Jesus condemned it for a very good reason!

Joseph prayed and asked the Lord which church should he join?

This was the reply from the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Joseph Smith—History 1:19 19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt;”

Colofornian, many anti LDS may feel justified trying deny as to where the reply originated from the Lord Jesus Christ and Joseph Smith was only the messenger so this anti LDS action trying to mislead is tampering with the things of the Lord so as one continue with these falsehoods those parties involved will be held accountable for setting up stumbling blocks.
