Tens of thousands wait for hours in freezing temperatures to kiss belt that Christians believe was worn by Jesus' mother

MOSCOW — Braving freezing cold temperatures and ice-covered sidewalks, tens of thousands of Russians stood in line Wednesday to see and kiss a newly arrived relic of the Virgin Mary in Russia's largest Orthodox cathedral.

The Virgin Mary's Cincture, a belt that Christians believe was worn by Jesus' mother, was brought to Russia last month from Mount Athos, a monastic community in Greece.

Kissing the relic, which is encased in an ornamental box, is believed to help barren women conceive and heal other ailments.

The line of people, mostly women, waiting to enter the golden-domed Christ the Savior Cathedral stretched for 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) along the Moscow River despite temperatures that dropped to below minus 5 Celsius (23 Fahrenheit).

Then why don’t you tell me what other scripture the RCC uses for the establishment of the church being built on Peter?
Would you actually read it? I have posted a great deal both directly from the Vatican and even from respected Protestant scholars and yet you appear to be certain you alone are the authority. The last time I posted links to EXACTLY what the Church teaches (and in direct contravention to what you claimed) you refused to even look.

So what is it, an honest inquiry? Do you truly want to understand? Or just more blather?

Hey you are the One claiming all knowledge and infallibility.

Care to show me where I said anything of the sort?

If you can't make an argument without bringing the personal attacks, then maybe it's not me that needs bowing out. But, regardless, it doesn't bother me.

Considering that is all you have, it just shows that you have.... nothing.

If they can’t heal they can’t forgive sins.

Mark 2:10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) 11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. 12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

Narses, I reccomend that you continue to devote yourself to your ‘church’ based on a sinful man, and I shall continue to be a member of the church founded on the Rock, Christ Jesus.

Works for me, you?

>> you tell me what other scripture the RCC uses<<

Just list the scriptures. It’s as easy as that. I don’t want to have to read through a bunch of RCC propaganda.

I can attest to the fact that the answer to that seems to be no.

****It was all about grace.. the Jews that believed one had to be circumcised.. ( a work of the law) and to keep the the Jewish traditions and laws ..(sacrifices, dietary, laws etc) to be saved.. had to see that one is no longer saved by being a jew and keeping the Torah.. but by grace.. ..it was all about grace*****

Sorry, but we already had testimony in Acts that Gentiles were under grace. That is what the vision of Peter is all about. Peter receives into the new covenant, Cornelius and his household and did so without consent of the rest but under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

The question came up because circumcised Christians were not mingling with the non circumcised Gentiles for fear of being unclean according to the law. That is why they were circumcising the converts.

Those Gentiles most likely and quite understandably balked at such a “burden” and sent Paul and Barnabas who agreed with them to Jerusalem to consult with the other Apostles.

Then the decision is made and a letter sent out to the churches to proclaim it as truth by which all the faithful were bound.

*****I asked if james as the pope because He ran the 1st church council ..I was trying to be funny..because you asked if THE PEOPLE were bound by the decision.. and of course that would have to be declared by the pope to catholics.. *****

Once again protestants show a lack of understanding of the pope. The pope is the leader of the Church, who formally and officially makes the declarations of the Church as she is led under the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit. And, the people were bound by the decision as noted by the story in Galatians where we learn that Paul calls out Peter for not abiding by the truth that was declared in Jerusalem.

Also, it is very interesting that this council came about because of the people who wanted an answer and an official declaration by the Church. That is the same thing that has happened many times in the Church. The last example of this was the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption of Mary.

Both came because Catholics were troubled by the protestants who did not adhere to these teachings that had been a part of the faith for centuries.

The formal definition of both doctrines came by the prayers of the people for the Holy Spirit to lead the Church to the truth.

Wow, it’s awesome to see the Holy Spirit at work from the very beginning, in the Church now, and til the end of time, just as Jesus promised.

I thank thee, Lord!

What "sinful man" are you claiming that the Apostolic Universal Church is based on? And tell us again what seminary your degree in theology comes from?

Willful ignorance. As for the citations, re read the many posts here on this thread where you have been cited c Chapter and Verse, and then in your own role as "ELDER" denied them.

EXACTLY RIGHT. Peter was the apostle to the JEWS. The gospel of the circumcision. It was Paul who was the apostle to the Gentiles. The gospel of the uncircumcision. Gal., Chapter 2. But never let it be said that TRUTH got in the way of fables in the RCC.

RnMomof7 is exactly right. And you are exactly wrong. Peter was continuing the commission he and the 11 were given by Christ. "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations." The Kingdom gospel. After Israel believed, then they were to go to all nations.

Paul was introducing a NEW commission, given to him by the RISEN Christ. The Gospel of the Grace of God.

Peter was forming a kingdom of believers, based on Kingdom convenants, prophecies, and promises to Nation. Paul was forming a BODY of believers, based on God reconciling man to Himself purely on the finished work of Christ. Grace.

The ages were changing from "Time Past" to "But Now". Read Gal.,Chapter 2. THere was a change taking place, and Peter realized it through Paul. THAT'S why Peter extended to Paul and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship. That Paul would go to the Gentiles and Peter would remain preaching to the Jews.

If the gospel of the grace of God was given to Paul to preach, and he CLEARLY says it was, then it could not have been preached before he was saved, Acts Chapter 9.

Regarding Peter's vision, it was given to him in order to show him what was about to take place: Israel would continue in unbelief, but the Gentiles were about to come onto the scene in a big way. And that is exactly what happened all the way up to the point that Israel is blinded and temporarily set aside, Acts 28.
