Tens of thousands wait for hours in freezing temperatures to kiss belt that Christians believe was worn by Jesus' mother

MOSCOW — Braving freezing cold temperatures and ice-covered sidewalks, tens of thousands of Russians stood in line Wednesday to see and kiss a newly arrived relic of the Virgin Mary in Russia's largest Orthodox cathedral.

The Virgin Mary's Cincture, a belt that Christians believe was worn by Jesus' mother, was brought to Russia last month from Mount Athos, a monastic community in Greece.

Kissing the relic, which is encased in an ornamental box, is believed to help barren women conceive and heal other ailments.

The line of people, mostly women, waiting to enter the golden-domed Christ the Savior Cathedral stretched for 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) along the Moscow River despite temperatures that dropped to below minus 5 Celsius (23 Fahrenheit).

We once had a preacher ‘splain away that “one wife” thing with the convenient explanation that it only means they should have ONE WIFE AT A TIME. He said men back then did have multiple wives. (I think his main emphasis was on keeping his deacon chairman, who had been married two or three times, happy. Oh, and his current wife was also the church pianist.) Ear tickles anyone? Tickle, tickle, tickle . . . .

Actions speak louder than words. Protestants claim to abhore tradition, while THEY are one’s clinging to faulty man-made traditions.

If one thinks they are still saved by works of righteousness and daily sacrifices then go for it

LOL It’s all been tried at one time or another. The RCC seems to be the only one who insists on making false teachings doctrine.

THX THX.

Depends on which aspect. LOL.

2nd Colonoscopy came out well enough. Only one polyp. Biopsy due back in a week or so.

Praise God you have more of your spiritual foci and priorities in order than so many of your cohorts seem to.

Have a blessed Season for HIS REASONS.

Much appreciate your kind words.

“Because salvation and truth is not built on assumptions.”

Nor is “they will” the same thing as “my intellect” and yet those who disagree with the Catholic Church spend 95% or more of their time trying to prove the Scriptures do not say what they very clearly do say or reinterpreting clear verses into something that suits their own personal assumptions and preferences. It takes incredible contortions to accept Sola Scriptura as being Scriptural and yet the folks who will stand on their had to pretend the Bible agrees with the fallacy of "Sola Yourselfa" pretend it's a horrible distortion to accept that a rock is a rock or that flesh is flesh and blood is blood even though it is Christ Himself who says these things. If salvation is not built on assumptions, then it cannot possibly be built on the personal infallibility those who deny the Scriptures assume for themselves.

That's exactly like the disciples who left when Christ explained that it was His Body and His Blood we would partake of. They asked him to clarify hoping He would restate what He said in a way that agreed with their intellect. He did not, he restated it in an even more offensive manner making it crystal clear that it wasn't an analogy or some sort of parable but His physical body and His physical blood. The “thy will means my intellect” crowd do the exact same thing, hear what Christ Himself says and then turn and walk away from Christ. They cannot give up the pride in their own intellect that they substitute for His Word. Whether or not “Faith Alone” is Scriptural doesn't even matter because those who cling to their own intellect have faith in themselves and in nothing else, not even what Christ Himself clearly says.

Not by faith alone? Those who worship their own intellect say, “The Scripture doesn’t mean what it says”.
The Apostles forgiving sins? Those who worship their own intellect say, “The Scripture doesn’t mean what it says”
Baptism for forgiveness of sins? Those who worship their own intellect say, “The Scripture doesn’t mean what it says”
God of the living, not of the dead? Those who worship their own intellect say, “The Scripture doesn’t mean what it says”
Nothing impure will enter heaven? Those who worship their own intellect say, “The Scripture doesn’t mean what it says”
The real presence of the body and blood of Christ in the Eucharist? Those who worship their own intellect say, “The Scripture doesn’t mean what it says”

These things are all very clearly stated in Scriptures which is why the Catholic Church believe them and teaches them. It's very clear which church dedicated anti-Catholic folks really belong to, and it is far from invisible. Whether they're Marxists who refuse to accept that some things aren't related to class struggle, Freudians who refuse to believe that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, or anti-Catholics who refuse to believe their intellect and God's Will are not the same things. They're all members of the Church of The Arrogant Self worshiping their own intellect just like all the Gnostics before them.

And yet these same folks expect others to believe them when they say they believe in the Scripture Alone? No, unlike so many who are simply not aware of the fallacies in the non-Catholic denominations they're a part of, the dedicated anti-Catholic crowd who claim to be infallible believe in slandering the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church founded by Christ Himself and in very little else other than their own ego.

Regards

Wow! That was a whole lot of nothing backed up by nothing! Maybe you could start by enlightening us as to where to find the bodily assumption Mary in scripture.

Backed up by hundreds of posts by folks of your ilk that contend the Scriptures do not say what they very clearly do say. Apparently answering what is posted is impossible so a subject change was in order to protect the Gnostic pride so many anti-Catholic folks worship.

Don’t you have the book of James in your Bible?

knowing how to find the book of James means nothing..knowing how to read it is everything

Do a word search on the book of James for the words see, seen .. what you learn is that James was all about how our faith is seen by men.. where Paul writes about how our faith is seen by God

James is concerned that the exiled Jews demonstrate their faith ...

At NO POINT does James say do this to be saved..or to keep your salvation

Oh lookie, permission! How nice. And what odd little cult did you say you adhere to sweetie?

No grace...

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from youselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do " (Eph. 2:8,9).

What the unsaved do not understand is that the saved HATE sin unlike them.. that try to force the flesh to act as if they do

He [God] purified their hearts by faith. . . .We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved . . . "(Acts 15:9, 11).

So you go to "the Elders of the Church" to confess?

Try reading comprehension lessons.

The passage doesn't say that people are to go to confession to the elders.

It's addressing going to the elders of the church for prayer for healing and that incidentally, IF he has committed any sins, they will also be forgiven.
