Tens of thousands wait for hours in freezing temperatures to kiss belt that Christians believe was worn by Jesus' mother

MOSCOW — Braving freezing cold temperatures and ice-covered sidewalks, tens of thousands of Russians stood in line Wednesday to see and kiss a newly arrived relic of the Virgin Mary in Russia's largest Orthodox cathedral.

The Virgin Mary's Cincture, a belt that Christians believe was worn by Jesus' mother, was brought to Russia last month from Mount Athos, a monastic community in Greece.

Kissing the relic, which is encased in an ornamental box, is believed to help barren women conceive and heal other ailments.

The line of people, mostly women, waiting to enter the golden-domed Christ the Savior Cathedral stretched for 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) along the Moscow River despite temperatures that dropped to below minus 5 Celsius (23 Fahrenheit).

It's all they've got.

Rome 3:16 "Whatever it takes to keep 'em believing and giving.."

>>You don't gain coverts by insulting your targets and telling lies about what they believe.<<

The response?

"You should have told Jesus."

Wow, are you really claiming that Jesus was "...telling lies about what they believe..."?

“All that he wrote was all that was necessary to lead someone to belief in Christ.”

So do you go to confession regularly? Or do you pik-n-choose the things God says to suit your own prejudices?

When you get done with that odd obsession with the sex life of the Holy Family that so many prods exhibit, you might try answering the above question.

>>Why not?<<

Because salvation and truth is not built on assumptions.

“Because salvation and truth is not built on assumptions.”

Then why ASSUME that YOU are RIGHT and so many much more learned than you, even those hand picked by the Apostles to TEACH the Nations as God commanded, are WRONG?

“Because salvation and truth is not built on assumptions.”
“Because salvation and truth is not built on assumptions.”
“Because salvation and truth is not built on assumptions.”

“Because salvation and truth is not built on assumptions.”
“Because salvation and truth is not built on assumptions.”

Because salvation and truth is not built on assumptions.

Here is another truth for you to follow then:

“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’ “
You do go to confession regularly, right? Truth straight from Holy Writ, no assumptions, no room to argue. (But you will, right?)

Another unanswered question:

‘Let’s take the prayer of Prayer of Pope Pius XII.”

Why? is Pope Pius XII the mind reader? Or are you? You claim that those in Russia today “...are directly putting Mary in place of Jesus or the Holy Spirit.”

How do you know that? What makes you the expert on what others think? Are you trying to claim to be able to judge others?

It says exactly that: “ Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book.”
Quite simply, it doesn’t include everything Jesus did, meaning it is not a complete record.

It includes EVERYTHING the Holy Spirit believed necessary...Catholics love to quote John 30:20..but somehow overlook 20:31 and Timothy 3:16

no where does the bible tell us we should make up doctrine or practices from silence.. but rather everything we need to know to be saved is already written

I've been out of the FR loop for a long time now. But I'm back, briefly, and I have a question.

Note the title of the thread. Nothing protestant about it. Yet comment number 2, crosshairs, "seem like they're worshipping Mary." Then comment number 7, a nice big load of crap courtesy of cynicalbear.

Why do you feel the need to invade threads that are about something you clearly hate? Its not your religion, you clearly have no interest in making it so, yet here you are, spitting venom like there is no tomorrow. Do you have nothing better to do? Can't you focus on your own faith and leave us the friggin hell alone? Or is your faith built upon hatred of the evil papists/orthodox?

Next up, "Invade?! Well, er, uh, Catholic Mary-worship priestcrafters invade OUR threads all the time! Poor us! Its your fault! Stop trying to control where we post, you nasty pope! Moderator! Moderator! He's being mean! Come save us!"

“... but rather everything we need to know to be saved is already written...”

So you go to confession as Our Lord commanded?

“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’ “

Evidently you HAVE been out of the FR loop for a long time now. They are called CAUCUS THREADS, if no one can comment who is not of that particular belief. If they are not designated CAUCUS, then they are OPEN to others. And you might ask yourself, knowing this, why would a Catholic start a thread obviously Catholic, and NOT make it a CAUCUS THREAD, from the beginning? KNOWING that others will comment, it would only make sense that if Catholics do not care to hear other's points of view, they would nip with the posting of CAUCUS.

Catholics DOTH Protest TOO MUCH...

smvoice appears confused. Again. This is not a Catholic Caucus thread, true - nor has it anything to do with the Catholic Church. Notwithstanding that the Bob Jones U crowd of anti-Catholic bigots and liars appear to have run amuck here.

poor thing..No it is NOT a Catholic Caucus thread. And yes it has everything to do with Catholicism. A "belt that Mary wore"?? Where you place that in the belief system scale? Amish?

Stop with your smug posts of wisdom. simply put it in a Caucus Thread or shut up about the responses you get from non-"Mary belt" believers.
