>> Gee if I google errors in apocrypha I have to go 7 pages into the results to find a Catholic site speaking of such errors.<<

So then you must agree that indeed the CC does concede that there are errors but that they try to minimize them so as to still use the parts that support their dogma which is not contained in the rest of scripture. One example would be praying to the dead. Only in the error riddled books of the apocrypha do you find that.

If we should take the apocrypha as scripture could you please answer the following questions?

According to the two Books of Maccabees, which one of the three places did Antiochus Epiphanes actually die in? Did he actually die three different times in three different places?

Do you believe the following from Ecclesiasticus (Sirach)?

Ecclesiasticus 25:19 Any iniquity is insignificant compared to a wife's iniquity.
Ecclesiasticus 22:3 It is a disgrace to be the father of an undisciplined, and the birth of a daughter is a loss.

Do you believe your birth was a loss to your parents or do you believe what it says in Psalms?

Psalm 127:3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Do you believe there is no hope for children born out of wedlock?

Wisdom 3:16-19 But children of adulterers will not come to maturity, and the offspring of an unlawful union will perish. Even if they live long they will be held of no account, and finally their old age will be without honor. If they die young, they will have no hope and no consolation on the day of judgment. For the end of an unrighteous generation is grievous.

Or do you believe the following?

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Wisdom 6:17 says, "The beginning of wisdom is the most sincere desire for instruction." but in Proverbs 9 it says this.

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Which is it?

Wisdom 6:24 says, "The multitude of the wise is the salvation of the world," but in Timothy 4:10 it says “For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

Actually, the Catholic site I found discussing it was a defense of why they should be included in Scripture. I never said that it was a site about the errors.

Also, why do you not respond to the rest of the post?

What do you say regarding the very same charges protestants make regarding the Apocrypha that atheists and others use against the ENTIRE Bible?

I cant’ answer the rest of your post now as I am off to work and will be too busy the rest of the day.

I will get to it though.

In the meantime, I will look forward to hearing what you have to say about “errors and contradictions” in even those books of the Bible you accept.

I am still waiting to hear what you have to say regarding the stoning of those who are adulterers and blasphemers.
You haven’t addressed those things from several posts earlier.

After doing some research on the verses quoted, I dismiss out of hand the contentions that there is anything wrong or contradictory in them.

First, the translations offered are very different from mine and are redacted.

For instance, Ecclesiaticus 22: 3 It is a disgrace to have fathered a badly brought-up son, but the birth of any daughter is a loss;

The very next verse speaks of the sensible daughter finding a husband. When a daughter married she most often left the household of her father to live with her husband, so that daughter is a loss to the household.

Next, we read how if the daughter is brazen or bold shames the parents and will be disowned. Another loss.

Ecclesiasticus 25:19 I found three different versions, but when one reads the preceding and following verses, one sees that the writer is advising the man in choosing his wife and explaining what happens when one chooses a wife who is wicked.

In the passage from Wisdom, having been plucked out of the book and posted without context, the words do appear rather harsh. In light of what the whole chapter is saying however, one sees that the writer is again issuing warnings to parents.

The other passage from Wisdom, it does not contradict Proverbs. The two things, fear of the Lord and the desire for instruction are not at odds with each other. One who fears the Lord, desires to know Him and please Him.

Again, in the quote from Wisdom 6, there are differing translations, some say salvation, some welfare. But, again, one is reading into it what isn’t there if one does not see what the writer intended.

You know, CB that there are those who discount the whole Bible and do not believe in God because of His commanding the Israelites to kill all the Canaanites, including woman and children til none were left.
