Gay Episcopal Bishop to Preach at San Francisco Catholic Parish
Catholic Culture ^ | 11/22/11

A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.

Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.

Do you believe that Paul was lying when he told us that the Church is the pillar and foundation of Truth? Or is that redacted from your Bible too?

Paul also said don't call any pope Father, or refuse to let priests marry, or to demand people don't eat meat on Friday...

And he also said the clergy had to have wives and children...

So we know that it is not your Catholic Church that Paul is referring to...

The vicar is the dude that is here, until Jesus comes again. Exactly as Jesus meant it to be. You don't have to like it; that is immaterial to me. We look at the Pope in the same light as we look at Peter in early Acts. No more, and certainly, no less.

Who you trying to kid??? If you had bowed down to Peter and tried to put sissified red shoes on him, he'd kick you between the ears while you were down there...

Your pope is not a representation of Peter or any one else in the scriptures except for the pharisees...Vicar of Christ??? Peter would spit on your vicar of Christ...

Indeed that is a strong biblical truth ... but like all truths we need to hold it up to the light for understanding ...

1st..what is the JOB of pillars and foundations?? why they hold something up... so what is the church to uphold?? THE SCRIPTURES ..the work of the church is to hold the truth of the scriptures up so people can come to faith in Christ and be saved.. (Romans 10:17)

2nd Catholics ASSUME that THEY are the church which is spoken of ...a falsehood of huge proportions.. proven by the very fact they have a low view of scripture and do not preach the gospel so that men can be saved..

>>The entire book of Acts is lost upon you? Paul's Epistles are lost upon you?<<

Nope. Not at all.

Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh:

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Hmmm, not just the Apostles!

Then in Acts 4 we find that it’s the priests and other leaders of the people who try to stop the truth about Jesus being preached even as it is today in the RCC.

Acts 4:1 And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them, 2 Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.

Acts 4:15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, 16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. 17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. 18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

Even today Catholics would try to stop people from speaking the truth of scripture.

It’s the hierarchy that has always tried to stop the common man from understanding truth and proclaiming it. They try to keep the power to themselves even as the RCC does today.

Acts 5:27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, 28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. 29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

You see, we do use and understand that Acts of the Apostles. And we will say with Peter and the other Apostles “We ought to obey God rather than men”.

"Ah, but by whose authority did the Pharisees cast out demons, then?"

Neither the account in Matthew 12 or Luke 11 have the Pharisees casting out demons. The crowds saw Jesus cast out demons and wrongly concluded that if the demons obey His command He must be their ruler. Jesus refuted them.

What we can learn from these versus is that demon possession is real and that casting them out is an act of mercy, one of the fruits of the Spirit. That you would ascribe them to Satan only speaks to your motivations.

You are more lost than I realized if you believe that only God’s workers can cast out demons. Satan can and does all the time. In churches all around the world. Grab a crucifix, a candle, a bottle of “holy” water, a rosary, and a book of exorcism rituals and believe it’s God’s work. When the finished work of Christ is not even believed or accepted for salvation in those churches, yet they still believe that God is with them. The only one being truly helped by that is Satan.

What is your interpretation of this?

No interpretation required...Only belief...And scripture study comparing scripture with scripture...

Mat 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him,

Has the Son of man come in his glory??? No he hasn't...And ALL the angels with him??? Until someone figures that one out, that someone is NOT qualified to comment on any thing else...

then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

When Jesus comes again, with ALL the angels, he will sit on his throne of glory...And it ain't happened yet...But when it does, then you can start applying the rest of those verses...

And more.....

Mat 19:28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Your religion couldn't touch this verse with a light beam...And you can rest assured that it didn't happen yet...But it will...

You're better of sticking with your 'tradition'...You'll just hurt yourself with scripture, until you learn to believe it...

"You are more lost than I realized if you believe that only God’s workers can cast out demons."

What the hell are you talking about now? Is it so important that you be right that you don't care what is right. We were discussing the casting out of demons, not the commanding of demons. You are trying to make the case that if the Church successfully casts out demons that that is only further proof that she is in league with the devil. Statements like that are in league with the devil.

Too much ignorance here. Have a blessed day.

“casting out demons”..”commanding of demons”...Is there a difference? Did I use the wrong word again? (catholic, Catholic, Roman Catholic, etc.?)

I guess you fell off the camel when it went through the gate.

You 'guess' a lot which leads to dumb dark comments. No way to go through life - Choose TRUTH, choose LIFE or live in darkness.

Being called a heretic by a heretic is a compliment.

Likewise, I'm sure.

Hey, pnsn, remember all the times we've been called heretics?

Yes, indeed, by heretics themselves. Knowing the TRUTH certainly gives freedom from all their hysterics. Meanwhile, they crave for what we have. Thank You, Jesus!

"Judith what is the truth of scripture?"

Judith, are you growing as weary as I am over these banal cross examination-like exchanges lead by anti-Catholics in which the initial premise is "Shut up! I ask the questions here" and the "right" response is the recitation of a gnostic catechism? The irony is that most of these goofballs wouldn't recognize the truth if it bit them on the backside.

Many of them. As pointed out in both Matthew and Luke Jesus declared that Satan would not command or cast out demons because he is too smart to divide his kingdom. Apparently you are not.

You are on shaky grounds by your own standards. All of your conjecture is either unscriptural or anti-scriptural. You cannot find any Scriptural reference to Satan casting out any demons or even commanding them.

I only have you to answer to, not God. Sola Scriptura, Sola Fide, etc. are human traditions invented by petulant revolutionaries.

Really ??/

The Church Fathers believed in Sola Scriptura:

"They[heretics] gather their views from other sources than the Scriptures...We have learned from none others the plan of our salvation, than from those through whom the Gospel has come down to us, which they did at one time proclaim in public, and, at a later period, by by the will of God, handed down to us in the Scriptures, to be the ground and pillar of our faith" - Irenaeus, Against Heresies, 3.1.1 - Irenaeus, Against Heresies, 3.1.1 Sola Scriptura ! "I beg of you, my dear brother, to live among these books [scripture], to meditate upon them, to know nothing else, to seek nothing else." - Jerome (Letter 53:10)

Sola Scriptura !

"There is, brethren, one God, the knowledge of whom we gain from the Holy Scriptures, and from no other source. For just as a man, if he wishes to be skilled in the wisdom of this world, will find himself unable to get at it in any other way than by mastering the dogmas of philosophers, so all of us who wish to practice piety will be unable to learn its practice from any other quarter than the oracles of God. Whatever things, then, the Holy Scripture declare, at these let us look; and whatsoever things they teach, these let us learn; and as the Father wills our belief to be, let us believe; and as He wills the Son to be glorified, let us glorify Him; and as He wills the Holy Spirit to be bestowed, let us receive Him. Not according to our own will, nor according to our own mind, nor yet as using violently those things which are given by God, but even as He has chosen to teach them by the Holy Scriptures, so let us discern them."
- Hippolytus, Against Noetus, ch 9

Sola Scriptura !

"For how can we adopt those things which we do not find in the holy Scriptures?"
- Ambrose (On the Duties of the Clergy, 1:23:102)

Sola Scriptura !

"We use Scripture to answer heresy and preceive that it is power and truth."
- Basil the Great

Sola Scriptura !

“Let the inspired Scriptures then be our umpire, and the vote of truth will be given to those whose dogmas are found to agree with the Divine words.”
- Gregory of Nyssa (d.ca, 395) “On the Holy Trinity”, NPNF, p. 327

“We are not content simply because this is the tradition of the Fathers. What is important is that the Fathers followed the meaning of the Scripture."
- Basil the Great (ca.329–379) On the Holy Spirit, 7.16

Sola Scriptura !

“Neither dare one agree with catholic bishops if by chance they err in anything, but the result that their opinion is against the canonical Scriptures of God.”
- Augustine (354–430) De unitate ecclesiae, 10

Sola Scriptura !

“For our faith rests on the revelation made to the Prophets and Apostles who wrote the canonical books.”
- Thomas Aquinas (1225–1274) Summa Theologiae, Question 1, Art. 8

Sola Scriptura!

"For among the things that are plainly laid down in Scripture are to be found all matters that concern faith and the manner of life,--to wit, hope and love, of which I have spoken in the previous book. After this, when we have made ourselves to a certain extent familiar with the language of Scripture, we may proceed to open up and investigate the obscure passages, and in doing so draw examples from the plainer expressions to throw light upon the more obscure, and use the evidence of passages about which there is no doubt to remove all hesitation in regard to the doubtful passages."
- Augustine (On Christian Doctrine, 2:9)

Sola Scriptura !

Only the scriptures contain the teaching of the apostles and they speak to us through , and that voice is louder and more perfect than any man made tradition !
