Gay Episcopal Bishop to Preach at San Francisco Catholic Parish
Catholic Culture ^ | 11/22/11

Posted on 11/23/2011 11:11:08 AM PST by marshmallow

A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.

Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.

Mark,

it all comes down to what the Church is. Christians know it is the Body of Christ, outside of which there is no salvation. Christians know it was established by Jesus Christ and no man is authorized to start another one. Christians know the Church has been here since 33ad and will be here until the second coming of Jesus at the end of the world. Christians know there is One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, One Church, One Eucharist, One canon of Scripture.
for those who think the Church is like the moose lodge or rotary club, they don’t believe any of the above.

I believe that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and through him I will live forever in Salvation. I don't need a "religion" made up of fallible men to tell me what to believe. I have God's own words and teachings written in the Bible.

Let me ask you this. If I go to a Catholic church and hear the word of God/instructions for practicing my "religion" preached by an active/unrepentant homosexual priest, is his teaching valid or am I following the instructions of a sinner/satan follower?

for leading millions astray...

For leading millions+ to The Lord only.

He only led himself to a wealthy life as estate owner and university lecturer, breaking his vows before God.

for showing an example of greed and personal gluttony...

For showing obedience to God and leaving all the pomp and circumstance behind.

See above.

for enabling the sack and murder of millions of Christians by the opportunists...

For being strong in spite of being vilified and sought after for exposing evil.

For breaking his vows before God.

for the Reformed Quislings who aided and abetted the Muslim invasions of Europe right to the gates of Vienna twice...

As the pope/RCC embraces muslims as he said they serve the same God while kissing the koran book.

Untrue. The Pope never kissed the Koran.

for the manual strangulation of the good burghers of Geneva by the power mad Cauvin...

For the glory of God and His Word for He said...the gates of hell shall not prevail against HIS CHURCH. Praise God it hasn't!

It hasn't. They have prevailed in the world of the Reformation, though.

and for deluding all the earnest would be Christians that exist with the devil's own brew of muddied and muddled and intentionally deceiving beliefs

For bringing deceived catholics out of darkness and into the light. NOW as Christians followers of Christ alone and not man - through GOD'S WORD ONLY. As satan is left holding his bag of man made teachings/doctrines - Christians rejoice as they are now 'in Christ'. Thank you God for Your WORD! Thank you, Luther, for your obedience.

You see it on FR - God's word only, as long as you leave out this verse or that book and anyway, this is what it means. The legacy of the Reformation is the devil's own brew of man-made heresies.

The battle is over, HIS children have the victory 'in Christ'. God's Word is The FINAL Authority.

See what I mean? To God belongs the victory. That is the difference between the Reformation and the Church. We believe that to God belongs all. The Reformation believes that to men belong all.

I was taught what you were taught,

The difference is I gave up those heretical teachings from men who wear funny hats and rings to be kissed and lives in a house of sand covered up by marble.

but I realized that what you believed was heresy.

You're right 'what I believed was heresy' - like I said I gave that up and now walk in the ONE TRUTH! However, you stay w/the heresy. That's why we disagree. I choose LIFE. The narrow path - JESUS.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." Matt 7:13,14

No one has it better than me! Thank You, JESUS!

>>The vicar is the dude that is here, until Jesus comes again<<

That’s not what Jesus said.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

And it’s not the Pope who is put in charge of correction.

The entire book of Acts is lost upon you? Paul's Epistles are lost upon you? Interesting. Another legacy of the Reformation: Chaos Theory.

Each bishop had the authority of Christ to administer, teach and run his churches. That is Scripture, not any rabble rouser creating his own church.

"Do you think that Jesus is judging based on works, or on faith in Him?"

Jim, any Scripture that calls upon any of the elect to push back from their Catholic bashing keyboards and actually actually respond to the call to Beatitude is obviously wrongly divided and intended only for the Chooooze. All Paul tells us to do is to declare ourselves saved, point a bony finger and condemn everyone we judge to not measure up. After all, once we have fabricated established the power to judge ourselves, judging others is an obligatory piece of cake. [SARC]

Christians are not Donatists ( google it )

Jesus Christ gave His authority to teach and baptize to the Church as Matthew 28 shows.

let me ask you a question:

how can you know that the Books contained in your Bible are the Word of God? does it contain an inspired table of contents? if no, what is the basis for you in determining what is the Word of God and what is not?
why don’t you believe the gospel of peter or the Didache to be the Word of God?
( remember, you don’t need fallible men to tell you what to believe, right? )

The Orthodox and Martin Luther believe/believed in the Assumption/Dormition of the Virgin Mary.

Martin Luther in his 1523 homily on the Feast of the Assumption: There can be no doubt that the Virgin Mary is in heaven. How it happened we do not know. And since the Holy Spirit has told us nothing about it, we can make of it no article of faith . . . It is enough to know that she lives in Christ.

May the peace of Christ be with you forever. Now, if we can only club our bishops into submission so that they give up this family feud...

Maybe Evangelicals and Mormons belong in the same category.

One may surmise that it is only a matter of degree.

Hmm, more pagan practices. Only pagans rebaptize.

Does that mean that the Catholic church NEVER re-baptizes someone converting to Catholicism?

You keep claiming that you were Catholic and yet you keep coming with these doozies. You want to rescind that claim?

I think that it is more basic even than this. I think that it is a third grade fantasy about being popular with the teacher.

Martin Luther’s and John Calvin’s arrogant belief that they somehow “rediscovered” the early Church by some hidden knowledge is only one degree removed from Joseph Smith’s arrogant belief that an angel appeared to him and revealed true Christianity to him.

"Apparently you do NOT understand it..."

Maybe your problem is pigheadedness and not ignorance after all. The Pharisees questioned Jesus about His having cast out demons and suggested that He was acting under Beelzebub's, not God's authority (just like you did). Jesus provided the logical argument that that was ridiculous (just like I did)

mark,

i love the ones who claim to have been Catholic and then by their posts reveal they know absolutely nothing of the Faith. i think they forget they once made the claim, but i keep reminding them so they can at least try and keep the facade up. they must think that by claiming to have been Catholic, it gives them more street cred with the Catholic haters here, but all they do is make fools of themselves.

"You keep claiming that you were Catholic and yet you keep coming with these doozies."

They are every bit as ridiculous as the stories told by the fake SEALs and Green Berets whose missions were so sensitive that the DoD destroyed their records. I'm sure they are rooted in the same psychology or psychosis.

Paul’s opinion in his letter to the Romans about salvation seems to support your view.

You would agree, I trust, that Jesus’ words out of his own mouth trump one of Paul’s letters, no?

Ah, but by whose authority did the Pharisees cast out demons, then? They thought it was God's. Jesus told them they were of their father, satan. So, who were they performing exorcisms for, without their even knowing it? Under whose authority were they casting out demons, in reality?

Satan uses whatever means necessary to keep the lost from finding the truth. Satan co-operates with false religions, which he himself has founded to deceive men. He heals people without their faith in Jesus and His finished work on the Cross. He gives signs and wonders and miracles to keep the unsaved believing that it is God who is doing these things. Such people naturally think they are in the TRUE RELIGION. Satan has won their souls with his shows of power. Demons can go out and come back into a person of their own accord.(Mt. 12:43-45). Satan gives power to his duped followers, thinking they are doing the works of their Father, God. When they are doing the WORKS of their real father, satan. Exorcisms, prayers to the dead, apparitions of Mary, wafers and wine turning into the body and blood of Christ, etc. The "signs and wonders" meant to deceive. And it's working very well.
