A notoriously 'gay-friendly' parish in San Francisco has invited an openly homosexual Episcopalian cleric to lead an Advent Vespers service.
Most Holy Redeemer parish asked Bishop Otis Charles, a retired Episcopalian prelate, to lead the November 30 service. After serving as the Bishop of Utah from 1971 to 1993, he publicly announced that he is homosexual. Divorced from the mother of his 5 children, he solemnized a same-sex union in 2004.
In heave? Do you think that she has the flu or is just hung over?
D,
don’t look for logic in these accusations. Paul worked very hard trying to “organize” the Church and be sure it was faithfully teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
to see that very Church attacked for being “organized” is a joke.
All metaphors. You have to understand the basics to understand the specifics.
Meditate on 2 Peter 1:4,10-11 and what St. Peter means when he says we become “partakers of the divine nature.”
Mary points the way to Jesus. To put her in place of Jesus is blasphemous and un-Catholic.
My Mariology is Eastern Orthodox. Mariology cannot be understood apart from Christology. Mary is who she is because she alone bore God in her womb.
That is why icons of the Virgin Mary always depict Mary pointing to her Son as the way to salvation. Just think about this. Jesus changed water to wine at her request.
Jesus created the universe, yet he yielded to a mere creation. So imagine how much more powerful her prayers are than ours.
You are starting on way too high of a plane my friend. Accepting Mariology was one of the most difficult things for me to accept at first.
The following scholarly book traces the development of Marian devotion from the scriptural era to the 7th century.

It’s the best book out there from my experience. I anathematize anyone who worships Mary as a goddess through ignorance or through knowledge.
MHG,
i must say this is the first post i have ever read on FR from a non-Catholic Christian that has ever defended the Church against these scrurilous and intrue attacks.
i have been waiting and waiting, and finally my faith in the honesty of some non-Catholics has been restored.
everyone knows these “untruths” are just that, untrue, but you were the first to call them on it.
you are truly a 1 Corinthians 13 Christian, someone who loves truth rather than lies.
when Protestants are accused falsely, i have always defended them against untrue charges.
God bless you.
No he didnt.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
for = because of.
>>forgiveness of sins HAD NOT OCCURRED YET.<<
Notice how repent came before the baptized? In order to repent they had to believe and once they repented their sins were forgiven.
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented
The repentance led to salvation not the baptism.
The Lord be with thy spirit also.
Wrong. Nobody is forced to enter a legal transaction.
But once one enters into a legal transaction, one is forced to the conditions. That brings up another point. Since the transaction is enforced, that says that somebody or something enforces it. Who enforces God's transactions, metmom? You?
Theologically, I like your description that it is a high plane. It is, but it's a plane one must get to if he or she wishes to continue theological discussion and debate on who Christ is. Exactly as you say:
Mariology cannot be understood apart from Christology.
So the reverse is also true. In my experience on these threads where ever we find a deficient Mariology we find a deficient Christology. Always. If you unravel their theology far enough, there it will be.
A wise Protestant would approach the topic as you did and recommend.
That kind of shallow rationalizing doesn’t wash at all with me.
God’s Word is quite clear on such issues. Abundantly clear.

Acts 2:38
Young’s Literal Translation (YLT)
38and Peter said unto them, `Reform, and be baptized each of you on the name of Jesus Christ, to remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,
“to remission of sins”
isn’t it amazing how the cults are always changing the meaning of Scripture?
You mean like the cross?
A perfect example.
Illustrating the "cutting off of nose to spite their face" approach of the pagan-themed anti-Catholics, fashioning swords they have too little knowledge to wield.
If they are consistent, they end up denying the Cross. If they reject it as well, in the direction sola Bibliolatry, they cannot even see what religion, comparative in this view, is standing right next to them: Islam.
"For" (as used in Acts 2:38 "for the forgiveness...") could have two meanings. If you saw a poster saying "Jesse James wanted for robbery", "for" could mean Jesse is wanted so he can commit a robbery, or is wanted because he has committed a robbery. The later sense is the correct one. So too in this passage, the word "for"signifies an action in the past.

Maybe it would be good for you to learn the meaning of the original words used instead of relying on just the English.
LOL!
it doesn’t mean “because of”
how many years of Greek have you had?
why do you know more Greek than EVERY translator of the Bible and the Greek Catholic Church??
can you twist Acts 22:16 the same way??
So too in this passage, the word “for”signifies an action in the past.
action in the past? the preceding v37 “Brethern, what shall we do??
no remission of the sins had occurred yet.
quit twisting the Scriptures, it’s offensive.
See post 2754.
Youngs Literal Translation was written in 1898. The King James was translated from the original language as much as possible in 1604 and the original language should give some perspective.
Good Evening Judith,
Trust that your presence and those of others who have so beautifully and passionately defended the Faith on this thread are not in vain.
I’ve been a long time lurker. Since I was around 18 years old. I’m 32 now. I’m also a cradle Catholic. I’ve been following this particular thread for a couple of days now and I decided to register this evening in order to express my appreciation to you and my Catholic bretheren for your dedication in bringing the Truth to FR. I’ve been deeply moved and inspired by all of you.
I can only speak for myself but I feel certain there are other lurkers who appreciate those who staunchly defend the Faith. As such, I also felt I could no longer stay in the shadows while blasphemies against the Real Presence, and the Holy Mother are espoused while I remained silent.
I’m not as well-versed as some, so my primary purpose for registering will be to learn from others more learned than myself but to also witness to the Truth that is the One, Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.
PS: RZMAN I found your discussion upthread (don’t remember the post #) about the mysteries and wonders of God and not requiring certitude very uplifting. As a Latin I look forwarding to reading more of your posts. I’m especially interested in learning about the different modes of thought, i.e., scholasticism and Eastern Rite / Eastern Orthodox mysticism.
Best Regards,
Josh
“and you will receive the Holy Spirit”
was this a past event as well??
LOL!
if they had received remission of sins as a past event, they would have also already received the Holy Spirit, correct?
quit twisting the Scriptures, it’s offensive.
Acts 2:38
King James Version (KJV)
38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost
LOL!!
anyone tell you once you are already in a hole, TO STOP DIGGING?
Since Christianity has always believed in baptism for the remission of sins, it is imperative that antiCatholics deny it. It sets them apart, you see, like the self-elected goats.
