No, it will get lost and stepped on.

This isn't just a Catholic thing. All the churches who believe in the traditional doctrine about Holy Communion take pains to guard the consecrated elements against loss or desecration. Ask the Orthodox sometime what the priest does when the holy gifts fall on the floor.
