I don’t know why metmom knows only comic book Catholicism, but you have to admit that the state of catechesis in Amchurch is pretty bad.

Correct. I am trying to alleviate that one CCD class at a time...

>>now, here is a jump ball for all the “once saved, always saved” crowd:<<

First off, I’d have to be someone who believes that for me to be one of that “crowd”. >>if Jimmy had a heart attack and died while “spending some time” with one of his prostitutes, according to the Word of God, would he inherit the Kingdom?<<

Surely you don’t believe that if he was truly filled with the Holy Spirit the Holy Spirit would have been with him in that situation do you? Do you not understand what “walking in the Spirit” means?

we heard what the 16th century of man has to say, let’s see what the beloved Apostle John, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit tells us:

1 John 1:5-10

This is the message we have heard from Him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in Him no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him while we walk in darkness, we LIE and do not live according to the truth; but if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have have no sin, we deceive ourselves , and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned , we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

“If I sin and don’t repent of it, will I still go to heaven as soon as I die?”

I am saved. God has declared me forgiven and in Christ. Even if there is some sin I failed to repent of at the time of my death, I still go to heaven.

Romans 8:1-4 1There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

LOL!!

read this:

John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

From what I’ve heard you say I seriously doubt you have.

Now, would you please find for me anyone on this thread that has said they do not sin?

Lot was called *righteous Lot* in 2 Peter.

David was called a man after God’s own heart, by God Himself.

I think that God is far more understanding and forgiving of our tendency to sin than most Catholics.

The whole question of whether someone is really saved who professes Christ and yet is living in unrepentant sin is another matter.

However, if someone is a believer, they are saved even if they have sinned or are sinning.

God hates lies. We categorize sin as some being less serious than others. But one sin is all it takes to condemn us. So is dying when one has just lied or gotten wrongly angry with his brother any worse than dying during the committing of what we call a more serious sin?

What about a person dying in an accident because he was driving drunk? Would that send him to hell? How would that be any different than someone who falls into adultery?

Jesus says the attitude of our hearts = actions. We’re all sunk at that point.

Everything we do is twisted and corrupted by sin. If God wasn’t willing to forgive as freely as He does, we’d all be lost.

"The most common comic book theology is banned from this forum."

That is not a completely true statement. References to those comic books is banned, but the objectionable theological content is prevalent throughout the Religion Forum.

We must also consider their approach to Christianity as a comic book approach. If it cannot be contained within a Stan Lee presentation, then they do not consider it valid.

i don’t make up quotes like SOME PEOPLE do.

i never said anyone on this thread said they don’t sin.

what the “once saved always saved” crowd says is that no sin can make them lose their salvation once you are saved, so murderers, sodomites, rapists, HABITUAL LIARS AND SLANDERERS, thieves, idol worshippers, etc will inherit the Kingdom.

John and Paul say NO!!

Well, if you aren’t of the “once saved , always saved” crowd, the question wasn’t for you.

glad to hear you are orthodox on at least one doctrine.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 9Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

When David sinned, committing murder, did God hate David?

God judges the heart. Man cannot do that. God knows if a man has repented and been born again. If so, he is a new creation. Yes, he will sometimes sin, but his heart is in the right place, as the saying goes.

Can a man reject this status? It seems so, since in Hebrews we read:

“26For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. 29How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has spurned the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? 30For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

But what that envisions is not just sinning, but an outright rejection of the grace of God. If a man does that, there is no hope for him. No priest can absolve him of his guilt. No ritual will avail him. If someone does that, there is nothing but judgment ahead.

We humans do not know when that has been reached, unless God gives us a special revelation. I doubt it is often. As long as we are in the flesh, all Christians battle the flesh. The battle proves where our heart is.

“For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.” - 1 Sam 16:7

well, i am shocked MR “ can a man reject this status? it seems so.....”

this is why the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Faith has always made a distinction between sins that break the grace of God ( mortal ) and sins we do because of our human nature lack of sanctification ( venial )

you see, the One True Faith harmonizes all the Scriptures along with the Apostolic Tradition, it doesn’t pick a verse here and there and start a new denomination on it.

"We must also consider their approach to Christianity as a comic book approach."

Whatever they are approaching does not look or sound like Christianity. Sadly, this is a Religion Forum and not a Christian Forum, so we also cannot expect the Religion Moderator to keep anyone from sinning.

do you read the Scriptures you post?

” and such WERE some of you.

the difference between what Paul is saying and “once saved always saved”, Paul says this behavior was in the past. the OSAS crowd says the behavior can continue and the person is still saved.

do not be deceived.....

ROFL At times they need no scripture at all for what they believe. There is absolutely no “verse” or even portion of scripture that supports the assumption of Mary.
