But when he started looking at the documents from the time, he was shocked. And "then it went from shock to anger. I was lied to," says Krupp.
". . . . a former high-ranking KGB officer, Ion Mihai Pacepa, who claims that the tarnishing of the Pope's reputation was a Soviet plot."
A very good article. I chose these excerpts as the Pius XII story is part of a much larger effort. Sadly, if you talk about Kremlin plots, i.e., disinformation campaigns, people stop inviting you over for dinner.
Musta been an Undercover Jewish Brotha! LOL!
The popes were unable to keep the German bishops from co-operating with the Nazis. But most Churchmen underestimated Hitler.
When I was moving from my original house my mother had this book of the play. She wrote all over it in the pages how it was a lie. The press during the war showed consistently anti-nazi catholic articles by the pope. I know my mother read those articles during that era. She told me all about it.
Also a another personal note. I met the nephew of Pope Pius who was still alive as of several years ago about 2005 and 2006. I used to deliver to him. He had hand written notes from his uncle in his very own apartment in Mineola N.Y. He grew up in the Vatican during the fifties. He said it was all lies. He had pictures of him as a kid with his uncle ( Pope Pius). It was the greatest privilege for him to know his uncle. He saw nothing but a love for God and people.
I went into my DVD library and pulled out "The Scarlet and the Black", the 1983 TV movie with Gregory Peck as O'Flaherty, and Christopher Plummer as O'Flaherty's nemesis, Colonel Herbert Kappler of the Gestapo. It bolstered my suspicion that O'Flaherty was the genius behind this operation.
