So the Protestants all the sudden rediscovered the true hidden meaning some 1600 years later?

How quaint. I’m not about to address your strawman accusing the Church Fathers of paganism.

In the Protestant case, it’s invent your own religion.

That’s been about a 2000 year problem. The true meaning isn’t hidden it’s right there in the inspired written Word. Anyone who is truely seeking God will find it. The problem comes from people who aren’t sincere or who are taught by the insincere. The enemy isn’t the Protestants or the Catholics or the Orthodox. It’s people who aren’t interested in finding and submitting to God, using the Church for sinful purposes.

Really? So what was the Council of Trent if not a wholesale rewriting of doctrine including saint and relic worship, indulgences, elevating speculative "Tradition" to the Authority of Apostolic Scripture and moving Mary into the circle of the Godhead?

I submit the Council of Trent is where the Roman Catholic Church made its official divorce from orthodox Christianity and into a realm of its own self-supporting religious system.
