Some consider scripture fiction.
You missed a key adjective there, BM: Some consider Mormon scripture fiction.
The dead-man-turned-angel-ghost Moroni didn't write, summarize, or even compile the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith had a "true confession" time in one of his D&C verses. Here, read Smith's "confessional" about admitting what a great work of fiction he wrote. It's right there in one of your "scriptures":
"Behold, thou wast called and chosen to WRITE the Book of Mormon..." (Doctrine & Covenants 24:1).
Not "translate," BM.
Not "interpret," BM.
But to write!
(My theory is that Smith thought it was a masterpiece fictional work as of July 1830 when D&C 24:1 was penned. He wanted to be sure he rec'd the requisite recognition & glory for its content. And he hadn't yet fully realized the religious swindle potential...$...available females to sleep with in a time & place when culture frowned upon such bed-to-bed maneuvering...even 11 men's wives available to him for sleeping arrangements).
Reminds me of L. Ron Hubbard, who wrote fiction...but admitted that the place for real $ was religion (Scientology).
That would be a Mormon response.
Of course I can fly to Rome, Egypt or the Holy Land...
Exodus 34:27 “And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Write down all these instructions, for they represents the terms of my covenant with you and with Israel.’”
