"In the long hours we ended up with a very strong religious exemption," Culhane said. "We were very, very happy."
He is also very, very deluded. Exemptions granted for wha should be constitutional rights are an absurd concept. What can be "given" can just as easily be stripped away.
An Orthodox Jewish demonstrator said it best: "The road to hell is paved with 'religious exemptions'."
“Marriage is a legal lever, because in our society we have a legal infrastructure that rewards those who support marriage, and punishes those who oppose it. When that legal structure ... is then applied to a relationship that isn’t marriage, the people who object to that definition are going to suffer severe disadvantages,” he added.
Duh. Most are conditioned to think that marriage is whatever the state decide to call it, exactly because of those benefits and punishments the state controls. So if the gubberment uses a different fantasy definition, well a lot of folks easily buy it. While as the Church realizes that it doesn’t have the authority to change marriage at all, the state will never admit this.
Freegards, thanks for all the pings on FR
Gotta ping it tomorrow.
