Psalm 84 - ESV (Reformed Caucus)
Blue Letter Bible ^ | Long Time Ago | God

Psa 84:1 To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of the Sons of Korah. How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts!

Psa 84:2 My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God.

Psa 84:3 Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God.

Psa 84:4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! Selah

Psa 84:5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion.

Psa 84:6 As they go through the Valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools.

Psa 84:7 They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.

Psa 84:8 O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah

Psa 84:9 Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed!

Psa 84:10 For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

Psa 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Psa 84:12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you!

Psalm ping...

Just an interesting note. I noticed that this is a psalm by the Sons of Korah. I was reading about the Korah rebellion a couple of days ago. The Korahites were given the responsibility of carrying the holy utensils from the tabernacle. They were not allowed to even look upon the utensils, only the high priests were allowed. Even though the Korahites had the second place of honor within the tabernacle, they wanted to be able to perform the duties of the high priests. This was clear rebellion to the call of God. This isn't unlike Aaron and Miriam questioning why Moses should be held so special.

God gives us each our labor in which we should rejoice.

And yet there is redemption:

Numbers 26:
8 The son of Pallu was Eliab, 9 and the sons of Eliab were Nemuel, Dathan and Abiram. The same Dathan and Abiram were the community officials who rebelled against Moses and Aaron and were among Korah’s followers when they rebelled against the LORD. 10 The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them along with Korah, whose followers died when the fire devoured the 250 men. And they served as a warning sign. 11 The line of Korah, however, did not die out.

I Chron 6:
31 These are the men David put in charge of the music in the house of the LORD after the ark came to rest there. 32 They ministered with music before the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, until Solomon built the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem. They performed their duties according to the regulations laid down for them.

33 Here are the men who served, together with their sons:

From the Kohathites:
Heman, the musician,
the son of Joel, the son of Samuel,
34 the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham,
the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,
35 the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah,
the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai,
36 the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel,
the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah,
37 the son of Tahath, the son of Assir,
the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah,
38 the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath,
the son of Levi, the son of Israel;
...
54 These were the locations of their settlements allotted as their territory (they were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clan, because the first lot was for them):

~~~~~
Eventually, they became gatekeepers and leaders of worship.
