When someone gives you a Christmas gift, is it free and unconditional? A birthday gift? A wedding gift? ANY kind of gift? Are they earned and do you have to perform (or work if you will) to keep them? Or are they your possession by the virtue of the simple fact that they were given to you AS A GIFT?

As a "Southern" lady, I think it is necessary to send a thank you note, but even if I didn't, the giver does not have a right to take back the gift. That would be rude! ;o)

Certainly a thank you is appropriate and I do thank God regularly.

Like every time I think of where I’d be without Him.

And you’re right. A gift is a gift and if accepted by the recipient is theirs, regardless of the level of gratitude expressed.

Do you have the right to either refuse it, or throw it away at a later date?
