Minneapolis, Minnesota (CNN) Prior to 2006, few people even knew that then-Minnesota state legislator Keith Ellison was a Muslim. Because of his English name, he said, no one thought to ask.
But five years ago, when he ran for a seat in the United States House of Representatives - a race he would go on to win - word of his religious affiliation began to spread.
When I started running for Congress it actually took me by surprise that so many people were fascinated with me being the first Muslim in Congress, said Ellison, a Democrat now serving his third term in the House.
But someone said to me, Look Keith, think of a person of Japanese origin running for Congress six years after Pearl Harborthis might be a news story.
Though Ellison's status as the first Muslim elected to Congress is widely known, fewer are aware that he was born into a Catholic family in Detroit and was brought up attending Catholic schools.
But he said he was never comfortable with that faith.
I just felt it was ritual and dogma, Ellison said. Of course, thats not the reality of Catholicism, but its the reality I lived. So I just kind of lost interest and stopped going to Mass unless I was required to.
It wasnt until he was a student at Wayne State University in Detroit when Ellison began, looking for other things.

A great topic indeed, discussed at length on other threads.
But Paul is not silent on the role of works as a demonstration of faith is he?
Because we didnt not speak out about none Biblical teaching. Catholics dont believe that their worship of Mary is idolatry. A good example of a people raising the mother above the son was in Babylon after the death of Nimrod. The Queen of Heaven was originally Nimrods wife Semiramis and God didnt have many nice things to say about the practice of putting anyone along side of let alone over Jesus. We use scripture as the source of truth. We dont use Catechism or some mans attempt to impose his interpretation. If it cant be proven by scripture its not theology that stands the test. If it speaks against scripture it is theology that is from Satan. Most Catholics dont use scripture but try to justify their beliefs with catechism or what the church teaches. That cant stand up to scripture all too often and they are uncomfortable being around truth. They would either see truth or leave truth.
If you want to be a Churchian go for it. If you want to be a Christian not so much. We use scripture only. The RCC catechism has more holes in it then Swiss cheese.
Joseph was considered righteous under the law and though he was such, he still could not attain heaven.
Mary was righteous because of the grace of Jesus under the new covenant which made heaven possible.
For it is by grace that we are made righteous and not by the law.
Galatians 2:21 KJV “I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”
We speak of two different conditions of righteousness, one the Judaic and one Christian.
Mary, being full of grace, was made completely righteous by her Son, Jesus.
Because there is no Scriptural support for it and to teach it as fact as if there is, is wrong.
It's simply a justification for the elevating or Mary to a position that she does not hold.
Anyone can make up anything and find some Scripture to support it somehow, and that is not how church teaching and doctrine should be handled.
It should be based on facts presented clearly in Scripture. Making a connection that is not acknowledged IN Scripture by the those inspired to write it, is running into error. That's how false teachings get started and are promulgated.
Mary was nothing more than the virgin chosen to carry the Christ child. She plays no other role in the redemption of mankind.
You want PC Churchianity by all means be my quest. This is what scripture says.
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:8-9
2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
would you please find for me where in scripture we are directed to go to the Father through Mary or even to put Mary anywhere in between the Father, Jesus and us? And please dont use the lame others pray for us and we pray for others. We are alive and Mary is no longer on this earth. All directives for people to pray for each other were directed at people alive on earth at the time.
Hostile work environment??????? Is that what you call not allowing another gospel? Im not even going to address that further.
Also to consider is that it was Paul that was given the revelation to go to the Gentiles and preach the Gospel of Grace that we are saved by Grace Alone through Faith Alone in Christ Alone.
That is incorrect. It was to Peter that the revelation came that grace was open to Gentiles and it was Peter who received the first Gentile, Cornelius into the Church. Acts 10
You mean, Paulian.
Scary.
One of their main supporters believes in space cadets/UFO's and most of them are closet followers of Harold Camping/rapture types leading their followers to inevitable spiritual destruction.
It is truly interesting when your tormentors criticize the Mormons since they conjure up the same preposterous theories that LDS, SDA, Jehovah Witnesses and Jews for Jesus espouse.
It is all about their SINFUL PRIDE which feeds their need to interpret scripture with an agenda straight from the lower world to obfuscate the message of Our Lord. They can not accept a magisterium since it would impinge on their Prideful state of mind.
Follow the advice of the Master in MT:22 and Lk 9:60. You will never change their minds since their hearts do not belong to Jesus. I have tried to be Christian to them throughout the years but to no avail since they appear to resemble the Dry Bones and White Washed Sepulchers mentioned in the Bible. The Church gave scripture to them and they continue to pervert its meaning with prideful interpretations and deny this historical gift of the bible in spite of objective history to the contrary.
Mary was nothing more than the virgin chosen to carry the Christ child. She plays no other role in the redemption of mankind. NO OTHER ROLE!!!!??? She wss chosen, she agreed. Where does the "nothing more" come from? Do sll generations call any other woman "blessed"? No. Why do you seem compelled to put her down like that "Nothing More." God did not ask any other woman to bear His only begotten son. That makes Mary special. Not you.You are nothing more than one of the billions of women who were NOT chosen to bear the only begotten Son of God. All generations will not call you blessed. That doesn't bother me, I venerate Mary. All your hate for Catholics doesn't make you anything but ordinary, and not blessed.

That is found in Matthew not Mark.
Again, we are talking about two different things here. Greatness in not akin to full of grace and Jesus is talking about prophets when speaking of John.
Do no compare apples and oranges.
Also, do no discount that it was from Mary’s womb that Jesus first encounters John the Baptist in the womb of Elizabeth and John leaps with joy at His presence.
Scripture references please?
Who is more righteous? None, but she is made so by Jesus as we are all made righteous and perfect by His sacrifice.
No one.
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Jesus own words here.....
Matthew 11:11 Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Luke 7:28 I tell you, among those born of women none is greater than John. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."
So, I am “cursed.” If you don’t know what a “hostile work environment” ia, I’m surprised at your statement tht you owned your own business. Maybe auto repair.
Have a nice day, you’re fairly inconsequential yourself.
How about:
ICor. 3:15 If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
I will not respond to you, as I said many months ago I would not.
I would like to add also that Mary’s role in salvation history is singular and unique but the rewards she received are not. We are all promised eternal life in heaven and can have that only through the grace of God in His Son, Jesus.
John the Baptist, likewise is unique and singular as he was the first to respond to the Incarnate Jesus and point to Him as the Lamb of God.
God has chosen many to bring to us His Word, but only chose one to actually give to His Word earthly flesh.
Is the Father going to listen to Mary before them?
Romans 8:26-27 26Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Romans 8:31-39 31What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33Who shall bring any charge against Gods elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who diedmore than that, who was raised who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36As it is written, "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered." 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
