Anti-Catholic Protestors Taunt Pilgrims in Madrid (Photo Journal)
Catholic Vote ^ | August 20, 2011 | Thomas Peters

Posted on 08/20/2011 1:59:05 PM PDT by NYer

I debated about whether to post these photos but I decided to for an important reason: to ask for prayers and to encourage us to support and appreciate the courage of Catholic pilgrims in Madrid who have had to face, at times, vicious anti-Catholic harassment. The photos tell the story (via Reuters FaithWorld):

Protestors light the WYD banner on fire directly in front of praying pilgrims

Two men shout insults at a pilgrim nun as she walks by them

A group of men shout at a nun and young women as they pass

I don't even know how to describe this awful scene

Archbishop Chaput’s remarks on world youth day and religious freedom suddenly take on more urgency when you see images such as these. We must pray for those who hate the Church.

And there are plenty more ...

A protestor carrying a wooden cross and a bottle of beer shouts slogans during a demostration against the visit of Pope Benedict XVI in Madrid Wednesday Aug. 17, 2011.

A protester (R) shows a pilgrim a condom who in turn shows him a cross during a demonstration against what they claim is the expensive cost of the papal visit in central Madrid coinciding with the second day of the World Youth Day meeting August 17, 2011.

The nuns and young attendees actually look quite strong in the face of that filth. They should — their guardian angels and the infinite power of heaven bolster their strength and endurance.

“Dear Lord, I went to Madrid for World Youth Day and a Monty Python sketch broke out. Make it go away.”

Let me guess...it’s not wearing the galero, so it’s not Cardinal Ximenez. It’s not wearing the goggles, so it’s not Cardinal Biggles. Which means it has to be Cardinal Fang.

Plus there is strength in numbers. They dare do no more than insult. There are enough good Christian men who would beat the pickling out those sour people.

Serious question - what is he/she supposed to be? I see a rainbow fag, but what is with the "I just got out of the shower" towel on the head?

If any of you don’t have a sword, go, sell your cloak, and buy one.

Cut yourself a freakin path through those zombies.

The pictures make me happy that I am not on the protesters side.

Actually, the protesters are a good example of how not to be.

What the faithful suffer in Jesus name will not go unrewarded.

Now, this guy is holding in one hand proof that God loves man and in the other hand proof that He wants man to be happy. Kudos.

I agree. Whatever point the thing is trying to make is getting lost in the queen sized white sheet.

Why are they protesting?

Well .. take your choice. First of all, take note of the fact that Spain is run by the Socialist Party. The economy has slumped and unemployment is high. The protests, according to the msm, were 'purportedly' over the cost of the pope's visit. In their response, the Vatican noted that most costs were covered by the pilgrims, the Church, and donors. If anything, they pointed out, the swell of pilgrims from all parts of the globe signified an increase in revenue for the country. According to an AP story:

Organisers say 80 percent of the cost of the event will be financed by payments from the young pilgrims, with the rest coming from donations by companies and individuals.

But critics argue that corporate sponsors are eligible for tax rebates of up to 80 percent of the amount they donate because the government declared World Youth Day celebrations to be an event of "exceptional public interest".

But, as the above pictures clearly indicate, the real complaints are against the teachings of the Catholic Church which ban abortion and gay marriage.
