Colossians 3:11
Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

I'll never forget when we spoke about this verse in my 2nd year of Attic Greek. My Greek Teacher, a wonderful teacher and Christian explained the incredible significance the word Scythian in that verse. There were, as mentioned just before the Scythian the barbarians, but the Scythians were the uttermost Barbarians, the barbarians among barbarians. He explained that the blood of Christ extended "even unto the uttermost barbarian". And that my friend, was me when I heard the good news of the Gospel. I was raised Catholic but since it was works based I always felt condemned, and indeed I was because I thought I would get into heaven because I was a "good person". But I knew darn well I was a sinner, and not a good person at all. When I heard the good news of the Gospel which was that man is saved by Grace and not works I was astounded, in utter shock. That is when I became a true believer.

The Scythians were an amazing people, greatly feared, nomadic, and could shoot down a bird in full flight either left or right handed with a bow while in full gallop on horseback. They controlled the southern stepps of Russia. The Great Wall of China was built to keep them out. Herodotus had a lot to say about the Scythians.

But really, my name was chosen as a reminder to me that Christ's death on the cross extends "even unto the utter barbarian".

I go to a mainstream non-denominational evengelical church.
