Why? I suspect it’s because their mind “sees” what it wants to see.

Actually at least one fellow did write a book detailing a short period he spent viewing hell.

If these reports stemmed just from bizarre neurological responses to anesthesia, as some claim, they would not all have such consistency.

That’s exactly right. What we see goes thru the brain. We do know the mind can and does manufacture amazing fantasies which seem real but are not.

So much attention to these people “under” drugs and various other medications. I vote no...not real...but to the person under the influence of drugs, it seems that way.
