GREEN BAY, Wis. (July 5, 2011) -- The ABC News program "Primetime Nightline" featuring the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help has been rescheduled to 9 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, July 13, on the ABC network, including WBAY, Channel 2.

The Shrine story is included in the program entitled "The Miracle Mysteries," the second in a five-part summer series called "Beyond Belief."

Shrines around world

In "The Miracle Mysteries," "Nightline" co-anchor Bill Weir journeys from Nazareth and Rwanda to Spain, Bosnia, and across the U.S. to explore "The Miracle Mysteries." These destinations are pilgrimage sites for people who believe profoundly that the Virgin Mary has appeared to and communicated with ordinary people.

As part of his investigation, Weir visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, and interviewed Bishop David Ricken as well as others who recounted their experiences at the Shrine.

"The piece was shot on May 6 and 7," said Shrine volunteer Karen Tipps. "The crew arrived the evening of May 6 because they wanted to walk the grounds and get the Shrine history during quiet time. May 7 was a retreat day for a confirmation class from the Diocese of La Crosse, so Bill (Weir) got to talk to those kids. It was a good experience for them."

Bishop affirmed apparitions

Bishop Ricken's declaration affirmed that in October 1859, Mary appeared three times to Adele Brise, a young Belgian immigrant, who said a lady dressed in dazzling white appeared to her and claimed to be the "Queen of Heaven who prays for the conversion of sinners."

The Lady asked Brise to pray for sinners, gather the children and teach them what they should know for salvation. She also gave Brise these words of encouragement: "Go and fear nothing, I will help you."

Since Bishop Ricken declared the apparitions at the Shrine are "worthy of belief," thousands of people have made pilgrimages to the Shrine and countless news stories have been produced.

U.S.'s only approved apparition

Bishop Ricken's declaration made Our Lady of Good Help at Champion the first and only site in the United States of an approved apparition of the Blessed Virgin.

In his decree, Bishop Ricken said, "I declare with moral certainty and in accord with the norms of the Church that the events, apparitions and locutions given to Adele Brise in October of 1859 do exhibit the substance of supernatural character, and I do hereby approve these apparitions as worthy of belief (although not obligatory) by the Christian faithful."

The Shrine is in Champion, 16 miles northeast of Green Bay, and includes a chapel and outdoor Stations of the Cross.

Staff stayed three days

The "Nightline" staff spent three days in the Diocese in the spring.

Bishop Ricken said he is confident that the "Nightline" segment will benefit viewers. "We look forward to welcoming many of them to the shrine in the months and years ahead."

Some say Not surprised the Green Bay area has the only recognized Marian Shirne in the U.S. After all, her Son is a Packer fan!

Personally, I have a great distrust for how the secular media handles religious topics. Pinging the list. Hopefully, some viewers will be moved by the program.

I’m not thrilled with any of the major media doing a report on an apparition or shrine, but I do trust Jesus to bring the best out of this.

May Mary intercede with him for the souls of the viewers.

so how did everyone like the show??? I thought it was pretty good and not too anti-Catholic... There was one professor who stated that Mary had more than one child but the rest of the show seemed ok... btw, I visited the site mentioned first in the show, it was in northern nj where Her image was supposed to be in a tree stump, and that’s what it was — a tree stump that is now dressed up and decorated to hide the stump.
