Pope Blesses Astronauts In First Papal Call To Space Benedict told the space travelers that you are our representatives spearheading humanitys exploration of new spaces and possibilities for our future. He said he admired their courage, discipline and commitment.
Why?
First of all, you provide no evidence that the Pope is involved at all with the Hubble Telescope - which interestingly enough is NOT in Tucson, but actually in space orbit over Earth.
Secondly, the Church has from ancient times been a repository and a promulgator of scientific development. Why wouldn't they continue on during the development of space flight?
Just because some conspiracy and alien invasion fruitbats and nutjobs think that Jesus was an ET and that there is a celestial war in which the greys eat humans out of sluices doesn't mean that the Vatican is either involved or believes in such nonsense.
Hmmmm...
Vatican astronomer says if aliens exist, they may not need redemption

VATICAN CITY (CNS) — If aliens exist, they may be a different life form that does not need Christ’s redemption, the Vatican’s chief astronomer said.
Jesuit Father Jose Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory, said Christians should consider alien life as an “extraterrestrial brother” and a part of God’s creation.
Father Funes, an Argentine named to his position by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006, made the remarks in an interview published May 13 by the Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano.
