For nearly two centuries, prophecy writers have been predicting the near end based on certain prophetic passages. They all use the same passages! The only things that change are world events and newspaper headlines. We only have to go back to 1970 to Hal Lindseys The Late Great Planet Earth to see how popular date-setting has been. Readers were told that Israel becoming a nation again in 1948 was prophetically significant. The prophetic countdown began based on Lindseys claim that a rapture of the church would take place within 40 years (the length of a biblical generation) and the fulfillment of Jesus words in Matthew 24:34: This generation will not pass away until all these things take place. The Late Great Planet Earth has sold around 35 million copies. We are more than 23 years past the 1988 cut-off date set by Lindsey and other prophecy writers.

Some circles whine about everything so I couldn't care less. And the fact Jesus never calls the Romans or Samaritans a wicked race has noting to do with anything - those people never plotted to kill him, their Messiah. Jesus often refers to his contemporaries in Jerusalem as "this evil generation". He further paints them as the ones who kill their prophets and whose house is desolate. "Genea" translated as "Race" fits in perfectly and is consistent with the overall context of the Olivet discourse. Greek experts and commentators Darrell Bock, FF Bruce and James Boice have all pointed this out. You may not agree, as is your right, but the translation, and subsequent exegesis certainly "holds water". Yours is a classic example of an exegesis arrived at in order to maintain the conclusion one has already reached. Result oriented exegesis.
And that's thew whole point. It was that generation of Jewish people living in Jerusalem that plotted to kill Jesus. Not modern Jews. Are you assigning their guilt to modern-day Jews? Are you claiming modern Jews are Christ killers?
Jesus spoke of that generation in these terms.
34 Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
35 that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
36 Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation . (Matt. 23

Most premils do. Their theology forces them ignore the obvious and go to that conclusion.
