Well, the leaders or rather Prophets, since the beginning of LDS have called Christians by that epithet.
I won’t repost it as I’m sure you’ve seen it a million times but if the Prophets state as much and starkly, why wouldn’t we interpret that to be part of church doctrine as they speak what God says they should?

Ya and much is said here in the heat of the moment which has nothing to do with doctrine Jesus Christ!
What an individual thinks and says is not the doctrine and like all need to be reminded to put away the natural man if they choose to walk with the Lord.
Also for those who can grasp in the sheme of things some take longer to grow in the ways of the Lord than others it all depends on the baggage one came in with and how will they are to let go and let God teach!
I am refering to Parley Pratt he has one bump ride before he got it work out.
The Holy Ghost can only teach us what we allow but self always seems to want to get in the way.
Myself I am still learning edify it is line upon line and precept upon precept here a little there a little.
When those things do happen it is sweet!
There is a lot of bogus crap in tradition and discernment is not always easy if one dose not use the Lord benchmark the scriptures.
