And which Church saves? Is it Catholic? Is it Protestant?
NO! No church saves! Jesus Saves! The church is the Body of Christ, which made of those Jesus has saved!
The word Christian is in th Bible only three times. First it is in Acts 11:26c: “And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.” Then in Acts 26:28: “Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persaudest me to be a Christian.”
And last: “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.” (1 Peter 4:16)
Remember; Jesus said:”Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matt. 18:3b-4)
In Luke 13:3: Jesus said: “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
Also Jesus said: “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of heaven.” (John 3:3b-8)
And let me close with: “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.” (1 Peter 1:23)
My experience is that many converts to the Catholic (and Orthodox) church are very skilled at that. However, at some point, if we are to be honest, we have to deal with the verses we do not want to quote.
We have to deal with those verses plus the patent confusion of multiplied "Bible only" denominations, all making similar claims on the truth.
It all begins with honesty and humility and a willingness to admit that I may be wrong in my presuppositions.
Thank you. I opted for non-denominational because it stays truer to the Bible than any Religion. While the Bible only mentions "Christian a few times, it serves the purpose of definition for those who understand/believe that Christ is the Savior.
While I do not believe in religions, I do not condemn them because they do help many discover Christ, but there are over 33,000 sects of Christianity and no two have all the same beliefs - it takes scholarly theologians to "explain" the nuances. If it was supposed to take that kind of brain power to be saved, then the Bible is relegated to kindling. The information in the Bible is sufficient to explain the path to Heaven and does not require any more. All else is for personal satisfaction and does little to assist "the man on the street" to find Christ in his heart.
God Bless
