I have often heard hell described as being cut off from the Presence of God. It includes a great deal of real torment so I don't minimize the actual place but the real hell is being without God. Going with this definition, I think it interesting to believe that the thief went with Christ on His mission to Abraham's bosom. There, all were treated to Paradise in the Presence of their Savior.
