I personally love to hear voices joined together in worship. I like harmonies - in fact I like the MoTab Choir. Maybe it comes from my years growing up in Mormonism.
I’ve heard others say the opposite, that because of the years spent in Mormonism - they can appreciate the loudness and joyfulness of a rock band.
That’s what is so great about Christianity. If you don’t like the style at one of His church groups, you are free to attend another. Jesus doesn’t care how you sing, only that you do. :D
This is true for me.
There are certain songs/hymns that still hit a nerve when I hear them.
The "meaning" and "purpose" behind their use are what cause me to reject them.
I suppose it will take some time, but for now, I am finding that Contemporary Christian music works for me. No "memories".
Exactly. I grew up in a church where the music was mostly what we kids called "vampire movie music", and there was a lot of monotone "singing/chanting" and a lot of lip-synching.
It feels so good to be able to tell God how I REALLY feel. If I want to throw my head back and lift my arms up, I do. If I want to sit down and cry or put my face in my hands, I do. If I want to clap, I just do it. It's just between Me and HIM. Who cares what somebody else thinks, I love Him!
