“Will this happen again?”

Yes, when the leftists and parasites who are driving the mania in this country finally realize that all the power and freebies they get could actually be lost entirely under Islam. Unfortunately, it will not be God, honor, values, and country that motivates them.

The Crusaders’ best chance for breaking the Moslem hold on the Holy Land came around 1258-1260, when the Mongols under Hulegu Quan, brother of the Qa Quan Mongke, rode south, destroyed the Assassins, sacked Baghdad [ending the Abbasid Caliphate], and overrran Syria. The Mongols proposed an alliance with the Crusader States against the Mamelukes and the Turks.

The offer was not only rejected by the Crusaders [the Mongols had no state religion, and many were pagan], but they fell for Baybar’s BS about fellow monotheists, and gave the Moslems free passage, food, water, etc.

After the victory at Ain Julut [1260], Hulegu’s retrenchment and war with the Golden Horde over Azerbaijan [the Golden horde had converted to Islam], Baybars was able to turn his attention back to driving the Christians out of the Holy Land.

Interestingly, while Hulegu was a Buddhist, his wife was a Nestorian Christian, as was the Mongol General defeated and killed at Ain Julat, Kedboga.

Whether we admire the Crusaders or not, it is a fact that the world we know today would not exist without their efforts. The ancient faith of Christianity, with its respect for women and antipathy toward slavery, not only survived but flourished.

Crusader, and proud of it! And yes, I'm old enough that I never missed the ORIGINAL airings of each episode.

Only the ignorant find "crusader" a dirty word/concept.

Professor Madden refers to Pope John Paul II as if he were still alive. If you follow the link to the original, it says that the article was first published in 2002.

Religion, after all, is nothing to fight wars over.

Sarcasm, don't you think?

Probably 20 years ago we were driving in central France. I forget what we were looking for but I will never forget what we found. We found a small castle built upon a small pointed hill in the year 900 or 1000 and it was open to the public. We toured it and were told it had been a gathering place for men who were going to the crusades.

Maybe because we found it on our own and not in a guide book, it excited me more than anything else we saw (unless you count Mary Madgelenes toe). The toe (if that's what it really was) was a relic at a very ancient cathedral.

France is a pretty fabulous place, if anyone is going there and wants more info on those 2 things I'll see if I can hunt it up.

I've seen it rendered as signo vinces, signo vincet, signe vincet, and a variety of others. Not being well acquainted with the intricacies of medieval Latin, I will defer.

Nevertheless, By This Sign Shall You Conquer.
