Pope Benedict XVI has made a sweeping exoneration of the Jewish people for the death of Jesus Christ, tackling one of the most controversial issues in Christianity in a new book. In Jesus of Nazareth-Part II excerpts released on Wednesday, Benedict explains biblically and theologically why there is no basis in Scripture for the argument that the Jewish people as a whole were responsible for Jesus' death. Interpretations to the contrary have been used for centuries to justify the persecution of Jews. While the Catholic Church has for five decades taught that Jews weren't collectively responsible, Jewish scholars said on Wednesday the argument laid out by the German-born pontiff, who has had his share of mishaps with Jews, was a landmark statement from a pope that would help fight anti-Semitism today. "Holocaust survivors know only too well how the centuries-long charge of 'Christ killer' against the Jews created a poisonous climate of hate that was the foundation of anti-Semitic persecution whose ultimate expression was realised in the Holocaust," said Elan Steinberg of the American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors and their Descendants.

OK, wait right here. The protestants, Muslims, athiests and communists don't give a ripe fig what the Pope says. He's certainly not MY "Papa". My Father lives and reigns in heaven and I bow to no man.
Are you suggesting it's the CATHOLICS who are anti-semites in Europe and the Pope is attempting to rein them in?
If you’re shaping your views about Christianity and the Catholic Church based on Chick publications I pray for your soul. (I will anyway)
Sadly, you’ll have lots of company on these threads, you have some learning to do. See, now you know you can’t post directly to Chick links. You need to learn to take Chick-like positions and paraphrase the comic books. Some not too clever anti-Catholics post bits of the stuff word for word and google shows where they got it from, a “gotcha” moment.
I see you’re a “Christian”, no denomination. There are many “Christian” churches of one members here who “believe the Bible” like you. Amazingly they all seem to think they’re interpretations are driven by the Holy Spirit, but if that were true they would all come to the same conclusions and interpretations, which, as you might imagine is next to impossible.
There is one thing that seems to most unite them, they KNOW the Catholic Church is wrong, that they can agree on.
You’ve made a great start here though, you’ve linked to Chick, were shocked that Chick is banned and then posted a picture of Priests in what some deluded fools might think is giving a Nazi salute. This tactic has been tried many times before, try to catch up.
You might also want to experiment with HTML, you can use multiple multi colored fonts and really, really, really large text and even funny pictures and gifs to draw attention to yourself.
You’re going to fit in just fine.
“youve linked to Chick”
I posted a picture which resided on the jesus-is-savior server. Apparently that counts as a link, even though you wouldn’t know unless you right-clicked on the link and selected ‘properties’.
You can’t possibly be claiming that there weren’t MANY pro-Hitler priests?
By the way, I got the picture by searching google for “hitler salute by priests”. (There are MANY pictures, the one I posted was just the first)
If Google had banned “jesus-is-savior”, then I might have posted one of these:

Would you prefer that Google ban that website?
By the way, I got the picture by searching google for hitler salute by priests.
___________
LOL, soon you’ll be googling “Catholics worship Mary” and “The Pope is the Anti-Christ”.
Yup, you’re going to fit in just fine here, you’ll have lots of friends.
Do you disagree that those pictures are accurate?
I see you’re new here, unless you used to have a different screen name.
The subject has been beaten to death, search the archives if you must.
Hopefully one day, you’ll come full circle in your journey into Christianity. Perhaps you’ll graduate from non-denominational church of one “Christian” who does google searches for Priests giving Nazi salute to a member of the Catholic Church!
But if you are going to smear the church in this way, you have to be careful. A lot of those photos have been cropped to give a false impression and many of them have false captions attached to them. For example, the photo you posted was from 1933. Often it is cropped to exclude the Protestant pastors on the right of the stage. You could have picked the better one for your purpose.
“You could have picked the better one for your purpose.”
What was my purpose?
I can't help you if you don't know. Good luck with it though.
You implied you knew what my purpose was.
If you see the original post and what I was replying to, all will become clear.
Indeed, I did.
If you see the original post and what I was replying to, all will become clear.
It is all very clear. Best of luck in your efforts.
When you get a job and move out of your mother's basement, then we'll pay some attention to your postings.
Who are you accusing of wearing Prada shoes?
I thought that you have as much trouble with one as the other.
That is the theology of Calvinism, isn't it? That nobody is responsible for anything, because God has decreed every action of every moment of the universe from the beginning. Of course she's not responsible. No Calvinist is.
Thankfully she was regenerated and now walks in the light.
And now, she has been hijacked by the Reformed Holy Spirit and is still not responsible since she now suffers from Reformed Stockholm Syndrome in which she loves her hijacker. You people amaze me; the comparison to the Hindu Brahmin caste rings pretty true.
“Pope Benedict XVI has made a sweeping exoneration of the Jewish people for the death of Jesus Christ”
morally and in G-d’s way unnecessary and irrelevant
the only “collective” associations of persons, in G-d, are known to and determined ONLY by G-d
The writings in Acts are infallible..unlike Benedict.. so I will go with the biblical account rather than the musings of a man that must never have read acts..
Quite agree. Cheers to you!
So basically all the Jews did was ask for Barabbas, the local boy they knew to be set free.
