What is so sad to me about how vicious these threads so rapidly become is exemplified by this discussion. It would be fun, and this would be the group to do it, to pick over the argument step by step and to squeeze the juice out of it.

We Catholics are aware of this passage. Those who pray the Liturgy of the Hours daily read it just a few weeks ago and read it every year. And of course we are aware of the question of how it touches on our idea of apostolicity.

But if we were to struggle to articulate our thinking to the point where it seemed that you understood it, we would never get done. It would deteriorate into bedlam and insult as these conversations always do.

When I think of the number of non-Christians of any kind who come by and see how we behave, I am embarrassed.

It seems that one person's ‘discussion’ becomes another’s ‘viciousness’ as soon as a post is answered in disagreement. Even though Scripture is provided, the message is lost and the bedlam ensues. Too bad. There is a lot that could be learned.
