“How long does it take to find the anti-Mormon screed of the day ?”

I think it would be fair to say that this is an anti-child abuse thread.

I am not a Roman Catholic or a Mormon. But I don’t interpret these stories as anti-Catholic or anti-Mormon, any more than I interpret stories about that weird preacher in what was it, Colorado, who messed around with meth and gigolos to be anti-Baptist.

No sincere Roman Catholic, or Mormon, or Baptist, approves of this behavior. We all know that. It is well that it is exposed. That way you can fix it.

Exactly.

Lds poster Restornu took the time to post a very, very long post of sexual abusers and adulterers tied to Christian and other sects' churches, etc. I was thankful for that post -- and expressed thanks -- that it was posted.

What's 100% ironic is that we are quick to see comments on some of these sex abuse threads like that in effect says "one individual does not a religion make." (And, yes, that's true)

But then either that same poster -- or another ally of theirs -- is quick to accuse the poster being "anti-Mormon" (as in "anti-Mormon" the group).

The irony is that here these posters rush in to separate the individual from the group -- as if they were not part of the larger ID group -- but then they turn around and lambast the poster for supposedly targeting the larger group. But wait a minute. I thought we were dealing with an individual -- and not the group?

Which is it, defenders?

Are you rushing in to defend the individual-perps -- or the group that individual is a part of? And if it's the group, then may I suggest that your points about this just being some fringe individual behavior becomes lost on the rest of us?

Be consistent. If you're going to defend the group ID, then that tells me you see the perp as more a group member ID than an individual ID.

Don't try to argue both ways.

(And usually those who defend the group ID are quite cavalier about it -- they rarely, if ever, mention the victims involved -- often Mormon themselves -- and act as if they are PR directors...as if image was more relevant to the situation than exposing abuse and protecting future victims or victims from being repeatedly abused).
